A new restaurant may be opening in the Back Bay space where one of the city's best-known restaurants had once been.
According to a licensing board hearing page within the City of Boston website, CGK on Newbury is looking to acquire the liquor license of Tapeo, with the place having a connection to Crazy Good Kitchen in Malden according to a follow-up message received on January 27. Back in 2018, it appeared that a restaurant called Tony's Kitchen might be going into the Tapeo space, but those plans never came to fruition. [Note that the hearing page got the name wrong for the place, as it is indeed CGK on Newbury rather than GKC on Newbury.]
Tapeo, which had been in business for 22 years until closing in 2018, was known for its tapas, Spanish wines, and more.
The address for the proposed CGK on Newbury is 266 Newbury Street, Boston, MA, 02116.
[March 12 update: According to a source, CGK on Newbury will be a casual restaurant that features such items as burgers and chicken, and it will have a seasonal patio in addition to indoor seating. (The dining spot is not expected to serve alcohol.)]
[May 28, 2021 update: According to another source, CGK on Newbury plans to open its doors tomorrow, with a Facebook post from the place confirming this.]
