A comfort food spot in the northwest suburbs appears to be going away, and it may be replaced by a new restaurant that also focuses on comfort food.
According to a poster on The Arlington List, Happy Belly Eats is planning to take over the Retro Burger and Ice Cream space on Mass. Ave., with the poster mentioning that the person behind the proposed eatery had been Director of Operations for Boston Burger Company and may be offering such items as burgers, hot dogs, pulled pork, chicken, and some vegetarian items. A check on the paperwork posted via a link on the meeting agenda page indicates that the person behind Happy Belly Eats--Jason Carter--has also worked at Uno Chicago Grill, The Halfway Cafe, Sunset Grill and Tap, and Bertucci's, and has helped The Rox Diner and Social Restaurant and Bar as well.
Retro Burger and Ice Cream first opened in 2013, taking over the old Cakes Bakery space; the dining spot offers chili, chicken fingers, onion rings, grilled cheese sandwiches, hot dogs, and more in addition to burgers and ice cream. It is not yet known when the restaurant could be closing, so keep checking back for updates.
The address for Retro Burger and Ice Cream (and the proposed Happy Belly Eats) is 795 Massachusetts Avenue, Arlington, MA, 02476.
[February 21 update: A note on its website confirms that Retro Burger and Ice Cream is indeed closing, though the note does say that it expects to remain open over the next few months while the transfer to Happy Belly Eats continues to takes place.]
