Papa's Bar & Grille in Malden Is Closed for Now; Exact Status Unknown

An old-school restaurant and bar just north of Boston that is known in part for its steak tips is closed, and its future appears up in the air at this point in time.

According to a source, Papa's Bar & Grille in Malden has shut down for at least the time being, as it appears that health/medical issues of someone involved with the Highland Avenue spot is at least one of the causes. Our source also indicates that renovations will be taking place on the building now that the restaurant is closed, though it is not yet known whether Papa's could eventually reopen. A poster within the Friends of Boston's Hidden Restaurants had first told us last month that Papa's might be closing, but no other information has been given over the past few weeks.

Papa's Bar & Grille first opened in 1994, offering such American and Italian-American classics as clam chowder, steak and turkey tips, wings, burgers, chicken parmigiana, meatball subs, Italian sausage, chicken marsala, ravioli, shrimp scampi, and baked scrod.

The address for Papa's Bar & Grille is 208 Highland Avenue, Malden, MA, 02148.
