Update: Governor Baker Orders All DCR Coastal Beach Parking Areas Closed; Parking for Some Restaurants May Be Affected

[Ed note: This article was updated on April 3 to reflect the fact that the list of closures has been updated since this article was written.]

An emergency order has been issued that will affect parking at some coastal parts of the state, and though it initially looked like parking for waterside restaurants might not be affected all that much, it now appears that some dining spots could be affected after all.

In this afternoon's press conference, Governor Charlie Baker talked about a ruling from today that shuts down all state-managed coastal beach parking areas along the Massachusetts coast starting at noon tomorrow, saying that the order stems from multiple reports about people not following social distancing guidelines at seaside spots. (The beaches themselves will remain open, though Baker stresses using common sense including not getting together in large groups.) Based on the original list, the DCR parking areas include some that are used for restaurant parking, though the closed sections of Wollaston Beach in Quincy mentioned were south of the dining spots, the closed parts at Nantasket Beach in Hull did not seem to affect street parking on Nantasket Avenue, and parking was only shut off on the ocean side of Revere Beach Boulevard at Revere Beach. Now, however, it looks like much of the parking by the restaurants along Wollaston Beach will be off limits after all (there will be some 15-minute parking), while there will be no parking on either side of Revere Beach Boulevard south of Revere Street, with this stretch including a few dining spots. (Hull appears to be mostly unaffected, as Nantasket Avenue will still have street parking, though all lots on Hull Shore Drive Extension and angled parking on Hull Shore Drive will be closed off.)

The DCR parking areas that are affected can be found here.
