Earlier this month, it was reported that a longtime sushi spot had closed because its space was slated to be demolished, and now we have learned that a neighboring Thai restaurant appears to be suffering the same fate as well.
According to an article from Wicked Local, Thana Thai Kitchen in Arlington could be losing its home as early as the end of this month based on what the owner had been told a few months ago, though any end date might be extended due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Banbitt Thanapermsuk, who is behind the Mass. Ave. eatery, is now planning to work out of a CommonWealth Kitchen space in Cambridge as a takeout business only, saying of the Arlington space that "It is very sad, we have been here for five years and Toraya has been here for 20." (Toraya is currently looking for a new space for its restaurant.) It appears that a new mixed-use development will be replacing the building that is home to Thana Thai and Toraya, with the new structure slated to include both apartments and retail space.
Thana Thai Kitchen first opened in 2015, taking over the space where Lady Siam had been.
The address for Thana Thai Kitchen is 882 Massachusetts Avenue, Arlington, MA, 02476. Its website can be found at https://thanathai.com/
