Cuisine en Locale in Somerville Is Going Out of Business; ONCE Hopes to Find a New Home

A catering company in Somerville is shutting down, and its event venue that has attracted countless music acts will be looking for a new home.

According to a source (Ron Newman), Cuisine en Locale on Highland Avenue is calling it a day while ONCE Lounge and Ballroom will not be opening within the space, with an email from founder JJ Gonson saying that "COVID has made it impossible to make the kind of money we need to occupy a space of that size." The note says that the plan is for ONCE to fine a new space in which it will be able to host "in-person shows, flea markets, benefits, and community-building events," but that Cuisine en Locale appears to be shuttered permanently.

Cuisine en Locale first opened in the former Anthony's space in 2013, with ONCE debuting there the following year.

The address for Cuisine en Locale and ONCE Lounge and Ballroom is 156 Highland Avenue, Somerville, MA, 02143.
