Retro Burger and Ice Cream in Arlington Has Closed; Toraya to Open Back Up in Its Space

A suburban restaurant known for its comfort food items has shut down, and a beloved sushi spot is planning to be reborn in its space.

According to a source, Retro Burger and Ice Cream in Arlington is no longer in business, with a post shared on The Arlington List Facebook group from owner Bill Maund saying that they have "passed papers" with the owners of Toraya, which had been located just up the street on Mass. Ave. until closing this spring after it lost its lease. An article posted here earlier this year had mentioned that Retro Burger was actually planning to close and be replaced by Happy Belly Eats; it is not known what became of those plans, nor is it known if Happy Belly is still planning to open elsewhere (keep checking back for updates as they come in).

Retro Burger and Ice Cream first opened in 2013 in the former Cakes Bakery space while Toraya debuted in 1999.

The address for the now-closed Retro Burger and Ice Cream (and the new location of Toraya) is 795 Massachusetts Avenue, Arlington, MA, 02476.
