Ciao Bella May Be Opening in the Former McGreevy's Space in Boston's Back Bay

A familiar name in the Back Bay could be returning, taking over the space where a sports bar had been until closing last year.

According to a licensing board hearing page within the City of Boston website, the now-closed McGreevy's on Boylston Street is looking to change its name to Ciao Bella, which was also the name of a restaurant on Newbury Street that closed approximately 10 years ago. The owner of McGreevy's had been Ken Casey of the Dropkick Murphys, while Ciao Bella on Newbury Street was owned by Joe Cimino, who also owned Daisy Buchanan's; it is not known if there is any ownership connection between the old Ciao Bella and the one that is being proposed, and to make matters more complicated, an Instagram page from Jeremy Scanlon--who appears to be the same Jeremy Scanlon as the former manager of McGreevy's--is named "daisysboston," though that page doesn't have any posts as of yet.

To make matters even more complicated, there is also a restaurant in the North End called Ciao Bella, and while it doesn't appear to have a connection to the proposed restaurant in the Back Bay, if we hear otherwise about this (or get any other information about the Boylston Street space), we will post an update here.

The address for the now-closed McGreevy's (and the proposed Ciao Bella) is 911 Boylston Street, Boston, MA 02115.
