The people behind a Charlestown restaurant and bar could be opening a new spot in the space that had been home to a neighborhood eatery for the past decade.
According to a poster within the Friends of Boston's Hidden Restaurants Facebook group page, the Monument Restaurant & Tavern team have proposed a diner-style concept for the Grasshopper Cafe space on Bunker Hill Street. An article from the Charlestown Bridge mentions that the plans are in their early stages, with the people behind Monument--which is located on Main Street--giving details about the proposal in a Zoom meeting last week.
In 2019, it was reported that the owners of the Grasshopper Cafe were planning to close the place as they were looking to retire.
The address for the proposed diner from the Monument folks is 229 Bunker Hill Street, Charlestown, MA, 02129.
[March 24 update: A licensing board hearing page within the City of Boston website indicates that the proposed eatery will be called Monument Diner, though it looks like its exact address will be 231 Bunker Hill Street.]
[June 2 update: According to a source, Grasshopper Cafe has officially closed, with a Facebook post from the place saying "We will miss you all but never forget the best breakfast in the Town! God Bless stay safe! We wish the new owners the Best of Luck !!"]
