[Ed note: This article was updated on September 30 to reflect the fact that the restaurant has closed for good.]
A Cambridge restaurant that features fried chicken, BBQ, and tiki drinks has shuttered for the time being, and it is not known what the future holds for the place.
According to a couple of posters within the Friends of Boston's Hidden Restaurants Facebook group page from earlier this month, Highland Fried is closed, with a Cambridge Day article mentioning (via a Facebook post from the restaurant) that they are "pressing the pause button" and trying to figure out what its next move might be while hinting that the closure is due at least in part to the surge in Covid cases stemming from the Delta variant. The Cambridge Street spot had been open this summer, though it had been closed on various days over the past couple of weeks, including throughout the Labor Day Weekend. As soon as we find out any updates on the exact status of Highland Fried, we will post an update here.
Highland Fried first opened in late 2017, taking over the space that had been home to East Coast Grill; the owners of Highland Kitchen in Somerville are behind the place.
The address for Highland Fried is 1271 Cambridge Street, Cambridge, MA, 02139. Its website can be found at https://www.highlandfried.com/
[September 30 update: A new Instagram post from the place indicates that Highland Fried has closed permanently, saying that "We'll still serve Fried Chicken on Mondays at Highland Kitchen."]
