Clover in Cambridge's Inman Square Has Closed

A location of a local restaurant chain featuring vegetarian fare has shut down only a couple of months after reopening.

According to a Bluesky post from @kenjimallon.bsky.social, Clover in Cambridge's Inman Square is no longer in operation, with a check on the company's website confirming this, as the Cambridge Street shop is no longer shown on the site, while a source sent us an email from Clover saying that "This closure is a planned part of our new era (smaller company, fewer locations, same amazing food)." Back in June, several locations of Clover reopened shortly after the company said that they would be ceasing operations, and the Inman Square location was one of the shops that opened back up. (Locations in Central Square, Kendall Square, Harvard Square, Boston's Financial District, and the Prudential Center remain open.)

The website for Clover can be found at https://www.cloverfoodlab.com/

Urban Hearth Opens in New Space in Cambridge's Inman Square

Last fall, it was reported that an award-winning farm-to-table restaurant in Cambridge was making plans to move into a new space, and now we have learned that it is up and running in its new location.

According to its website, Urban Hearth is now open in the former Turing Tavern space on Cambridge Street in Inman Square, with Chef/Owner Erin Miller moving it from its former space on Massachusetts Avenue in North Cambridge. As mentioned in an earlier article here, the new space includes table seating in the dining room, a chef's counter with additional seating, and a full-service bar and "salon" with seating as well, with the chef's counter featuring a multi-course tasting menu while an à la carte menu is offered for patrons in the dining room, bar, and salon.

Boston Magazine mentions that the former Urban Hearth space will be used for private events this summer before opening up around October as a new and more casual restaurant that looks to be a contemporary American bistro.

Since opening in 2016, Urban Hearth has won multiple Best of Boston awards in Boston Magazine, while Miller was recently named a 2025 finalist for the James Beard Foundation's Best Chef, Northeast award.

The new address for Urban Hearth is 1281 Cambridge Street, Cambridge, MA, 02139. The website for the restaurant can be found at https://www.urbanhearth.net/

S&S Deli in Cambridge Has Closed

Early last month, it was reported that one of the oldest--and best-known restaurants--in Cambridge was closing, and the dining spot has now officially served its final meal.

According to its website, S&S Deli in Inman Square is now closed, confirming what had been heard earlier that its last day in operation was June 7. The owners of the Cambridge Street restaurant, which first opened in 1919, are planning to retire, and as mentioned in an earlier article here, it is possible that a new dining place could be coming to the space at some point, though it doesn't appear that anything has been confirmed as of yet.

S&S Deli was known for such items as cheese blintzes, corned beef and pastrami sandwiches, potato pancakes, chopped liver, knockwurst, and more.

The address for the now-closed S&S Deli was 1334 Cambridge Street, Cambridge, MA, 02139.

S&S Deli in Cambridge's Inman Square Is Closing

It looks like one of the oldest restaurants in Cambridge is shutting down.

Based on information from a source from earlier this week, S&S Deli in Inman Square is closing, with a Boston Globe article confirming that the Cambridge Street eatery is indeed shutting down in June. In the article, co-owner Gary Mitchell says that "I'm proud of the chapters behind us and looking forward to what's next," while noting that it "has been in my family for 107 years....I understand people may love S&S. It's time to make time for other restaurants, and other things are coming." A message sent to us from Mitchell on Tuesday simply said "Stay tuned!" when asked about the status of the place.

S&S Deli first opened in 1919, being known for its classic deli fare including potato pancakes, corned beef and pastrami sandwiches, chopped liver, cheese blintzes, knockwurst, and more.

The address for S&S Deli is 1334 Cambridge Street, Cambridge, MA, 02139. Its website can be found at http://www.sandsrestaurant.com/

The Turing Tavern in Cambridge's Inman Square Has Closed; Urban Hearth to Take Over the Space

A restaurant and bar in Cambridge has shuttered after being in business for a bit more than two years, and as hinted at in an earlier article, an award-winning farm-to-table restaurant will be moving into the space.

According to an X post from @BrianMinghella, The Turing Tavern in Inman Square is no longer in business, with a photo showing a "permanently closed" notice out front at the Cambridge Avenue space. The website for the place confirms what was heard in October, that Urban Hearth in North Cambridge is indeed taking over the space, apparently in early 2026, based on the Urban Hearth website which mentions a final New Year's Eve in its Mass. Ave. space.

The Turing Tavern first opened in September of 2023, taking over the space where The Drifter's Tale had been, and before that, a location of Bukowski's.

The address for the now-closed Turing Tavern was 1281 Cambridge Street, Cambridge, MA, 02139.

It looks like the new location of Urban Heath could be opening in the late first quarter or early second quarter of 2026, and the original restaurant on Mass. Midwest Grill Fusion in Cambridge's Inman Square Is Morphing into JP Restaurant

A change is coming to a restaurant space in Cambridge that has seen a few changes over recent times.

According to a post by troysch1 on Bluesky, Midwest Grill Fusion is in the process of becoming JP Restaurant, with a note on the website of the new spot saying the following:

Our parent company Midwest Grill, Inc was est. in 1993. The name JP originated by the name of the owner John Pinto. We decided to change our DBA name because we have been serving brazilian style food for past 25 years & we thought it's time to make some change, so we change our business name & Menu. Now, we serve Breakfast, all day Buffet / order from Menu optional, with [traditional Portugal] & some Brazilian food.

Last year, Midwest Grill Fusion replaced a Korean BBQ spot that had briefly been in the Cambridge Street space, with the space previously being home to the Midwest Grill Brazilian BBQ.

The address for JP Restaurant is 1124 Cambridge Street, Cambridge, MA, 02139. Its website is at https://jprestaurantandbar.com/

Stay tuned for more updates as we embark on this exciting new chapter!

It is not yet known whether the new location of Remnant will feature live music, nor is it known what kind of food it might offer, so stay tuned for updates as they come in.

Midwest Grill Fusion to Open in Former Midwest Grill Brazilian BBQ Space in Cambridge's Inman Square

A popular all-you-can-eat restaurant in Cambridge appears to be returning in a somewhat different form (and with a slightly different name).

According to a tweet from @TroySch1, Midwest Grill Fusion is planning to open in the old Midwest Grill Brazilian BBQ space in Inman Square, with a sign out front at the Cambridge Street storefront saying "opening soon with fusion menu" which will include grilled meat, burgers, sandwiches, pizza, pasta, burritos, tacos, and more. The website for the restaurant includes the following note:

We apologize, if we make you confuse by changing the business name to Midwest Grill Fusion. We decided to change the business name because we have been serving mostly grill meats since 1993 and we want to add totally different types of food in our menu. Please, bring your family and enjoy our Fusion menu.

Last year, the Midwest Grill space briefly became home to a Korean BBQ spot that offered such items as kimchi dumplings, bulgogi, bi bim bap, chicken katsu, and curry rice., while the original Midwest Grill was a Brazilian rodizio that featured a salad bar and buffet along with a variety of meats cut tableside.
