A new dining and drinking spot appears to be opening in Cambridge, and it has a connection to a beloved bar that announced its closure earlier this year.
According to a source, the New Republik Bar is planning to open in the space in Inman Square that had been home to The Rising, with an Instagram page for the place hinting that people involved with the now-closed People's Republik are behind it, saying that "The Republik will rise again!" Our source sent us photos showing a sign up for the New Republik in the window of the Cambridge Street space, which jibes with what we have been hearing over the past few months, that people from The People's Republik--which had been located on Mass. Ave. on the outskirts of Central Square--were eyeing the space for a potential return of the bar in some form. (As soon as we find out more information about the New Republik, we will post an update here.)
The Rising was an Irish gastropub that first opened in early 2016.

[September 30 update: An article from boston.com indicates that former People's Republik manager Patrick Gallivan and co-worker Maxwell Greene are behind the New Republik Bar, with Gallivan saying that "It'll have a lot of the same feel — mostly the same staff, a lot of the same artwork, but we're in a nicer building with nicer bathrooms. Everything's just going to be a little bit nicer." The article says that the menu will be similar to that of The People's Republik, though with a few healthier options, and that live music is not expected to be part of the plans. If all goes well, the new place could open in mid-November.]
