A bit more than a year ago, it was reported that a beloved sushi place in the northwest suburbs was planning to return to a new space after losing its home. Now we have learned that it has finally reopened.
According to a source, Toraya is open once again in Arlington, taking over the former Retro Burger and Ice Cream on Mass. Ave. just west of the Mill Street/Jason Street intersection, with the website for the restaurant confirming that it is indeed up and running (though not open today). As mentioned earlier, the sushi spot lost its lease in the spring of 2020 and saw its building on Mass. Ave. across from the high school torn down, though they did say at the time that they hoped to find a new space in which to reopen.
Toraya dates back to 1999, with the place being a favorite among locals while also being a bit of an industry and media favorite as well.
The address for the reopened Toraya is 795 Massachusetts Avenue, Arlington, MA, 02476. Its website can be found at https://toraya.jimdofree.com/
