A neighborhood restaurant and bar known for its classic American fare and beer list has shut down.
According to multiple sources within the restaurant industry, Canary Square in Jamaica Plain closed its doors after business hours Friday night, with no reason given for the closure of the S Huntington Avenue spot; we reached out to the place on Friday and are still waiting to hear back, while phone calls went directly to voicemail with no option to speak to anyone there. Canary Square first opened in 2010, with the people behind the now-closed Coda in Boston's South End and Common Ground in Allston being behind the opening. Some of the offerings at the place included poutine, macaroni and cheese, roast chicken, bolognese, fish and chips, Cuban sandwiches, chicken sandwiches, and pizza.
The address for Canary Square is 435 S Huntington Avenue, Jamaica Plain, MA, 02130.
[December 29 update: We never did hear back from Canary Square, and there are no updates on their website or social media, but now we have learned via a licensing board hearing notice that they are petitioning to transfer their license to the proposed Alamo Drafthouse Cinema in the Seaport District.]
