Earlier this month, it was reported that a growing local group of Mexican restaurants was planning to open its first Cambridge location, and now we have learned that another one is on the way as well, with this one replacing a Mexican restaurant in Brighton that closed last fall.
According to a poster within the Friends of Boston's Hidden Restaurants Facebook group page, Chilacates is planning to open on Commonwealth Avenue, moving into the space that had been home to La Catrina until it shuttered in October. (Another poster within the group confirmed the news, posting a picture of the storefront with a sign for Chilacates already in place.) As mentioned in an earlier article, Chilacates is also looking to open on Cambridge Street in East Cambridge, taking over the former East Side Bar and Grille space, and both new outlets will be joining others in Jamaica Plain (two), the South End, Mission Hill, Roslindale, and Chestnut Hill--and yet another new one is being planned for Brookline's Coolidge Corner as well.
La Catrina was a counter-service restaurant that had been open for approximately four years.
The address for the new location of Chilacates in Brighton is 1620 Commonwealth Avenue, Boston, MA, 02135. The website for all locations is at https://chilacatesmx.com/
[March 31 update: According to its website, Chilacates in Brighton is now open.]
