Cactus Club Cafe Plans to Open in Boston's Back Bay

A new dining spot may be on its way to the Back Bay of Boston, and its name is very similar to that of a long-closed restaurant that was a popular spot for many years.

According to a source, Cactus Club Cafe is planning to open at 500 Boylston Street, with a Neighborhood Association of the Back Bay (NABB) License and Building Use meeting looking into the proposal on July 10. We have been told that the new place does not have an ownership connection to that of the Cactus Club, a Mexican and Tex-Mex spot that resided at 939 Boylston Street from the 1980s until its closure in 2014.

As soon as more information on the Cactus Club Cafe is given via the NABB meeting or elsewhere, we will post an update here.

[August 1 update: The Boston Sun reports that the Back Bay location of the Cactus Club Cafe is part of a Canadian chain of casual upscale restaurants featuring global cuisine, and that it apparently won't open for another two years.]
