Asaro Bakery and Cafe Plans to Take Over One of the Former Darwin's Locations in Cambridge

A new bakery-cafe with Israeli influences is looking to open in Cambridge, and it will be taking over a space that had been home to a location of a group of cafes that shut down last year.

According to a poster within the Friends of Boston's Hidden Restaurants Facebook group page, Asaro Bakery and Cafe is planning to open on Cambridge Street between Harvard Square and Inman Square, moving into the space in which Darwin's used to reside. Cambridge Day mentions that the upcoming cafe will be run by a family that used to run bakeries in Israel, with co-owner Timna Barsheshet saying that "Our specialty will be finding a middle ground between Israeli and American culture....Our goal is to offer high-quality and delicious baked goods with Israeli authenticity, but with creativity inspired from all around the world."

The original Darwin's on Mt Auburn Street is now home to Roust Coffee, while the Putnam Avenue space will become home to Circus Cooperative Cafe. All four locations--including one on Mass. Ave. whose space remains empty and without a tenant--closed down in November and December of 2022.

The address for the upcoming Asaro Bakery and Cafe is 1629 Cambridge Street, Cambridge, MA, 02138
