The family behind a farm on the South Shore that includes an ice cream stand has bought another ice cream stand a couple of towns away.
Based on information from a poster within the Friends of Boston's Hidden Restaurants Facebook group page (and confirmed by a Facebook post from the Whitman Police Department), Hornstra Farms in Norwell has purchased Peaceful Meadows Ice Cream in Whitman for $1,750,000 in an auction that took place today. As mentioned in an article last month, the auction included Peaceful Meadows' ice cream stand, 55 acres of agricultural land, a single-family home, and a 2-family home, though Hornstra Farms bought only the ice cream stand and the land (the police department said that "the two lots/houses across the street are up next"). It is not known what kinds of changes (if any) might be coming to the ice cream stand, nor is it known whether its name will remain the same, so stay tuned for updates.
The ice cream stand at Peaceful Meadows dates back to 1962, though the farm itself was established several decades earlier.
The address for the Peaceful Meadows property is 60 Bedford Street, Whitman, MA, 02382.
