Cantina La Mexicana in Somerville's Union Square Is Closing

It looks like a longtime Mexican restaurant in Somerville is shutting down.

According to a poster within the Friends of Boston's Hidden Restaurants Facebook group page (via a Somerville, MA Community Facebook post), Cantina La Mexicana in Union Square is closing, with an email from owners Robert and Carolina Rendon shown that says, "It is with great sadness that Cantina la Mexicana will be closing its doors on September 3rd. It was a great honor serving the community....From the bottom of my heart thank you for all of the support and love." The email also indicates that its closure is apparently the result of an eviction notice given to the owners, though no specifics were given.

Cantina La Mexicana, which first started out in 1995 as Taqueria la Mexicana, has been known in part for its variety of taco dishes along with nachos, enchiladas, burros, fajitas, and more.

The address for Cantina La Mexicana is 247 Washington Street, Somerville, MA, 02143. Its website can be found at https://cantinalamexicana.com/\

[September 5 update: Multiple posters on social media have confirmed that Cantina La Mexicana is now closed.]

NOTE: We need your help, as Leslie Hurwitz, who is the father of Marc (the founder of this site) is dealing with health issues and some major related expenses. Please donate at https://gofund.me/76d8ba28, thanks!
