A group of high-end Japanese restaurants with roots in Texas--and whose chef/founder is a James Beard award winner--will be expanding to Boston.
According to a post in Nation's Restaurant News, Uchi is planning to open in the Fort Point section of the city, moving into a space on Congress Street sometime in 2027 that will include seating for 210 people, 11 at a sushi counter, 17 at a bar, and 26 in a private dining room. Based on other locations, expect to see "elevated non‑traditional Japanese cuisine" with options being nigiri/sashimi, deep-fried dishes such as tempura, veggie items such as edamame and shishito, and bluefin specials--and tasting menus will likely be offered as well.
In 2003, the first Uchi opened in Austin, with Tyson Cole being Executive Chef and co-owner, and Cole won (in a tie) the James Beard Award for Best Chef: Southwest in 2011. The restaurant is part of Hai Hospitality, which also runs Uchiko (Japanese farmhouse cuisine), Uchiba (an izakaya-styled cocktail bar), Oheya (an omakase tasting room), and Loro (an Asian smokehouse).
The address for the upcoming Uchi in Fort Point is 374 Congress Street, Boston, MA, 02210. The website for the business is at https://uchi.uchirestaurants.com/
