Pink Taco in Boston's Fort Point/Seaport District Has Closed

What was once a small group of Mexican restaurants has now completely disappeared, as its sole remaining location (which was in Boston) has shut down.

According to a poster within the Friends of Boston's Hidden Restaurants Facebook group page, Pink Taco in the Fort Point/Seaport District section of the city is no longer in business, with a photo showing a permanently closed sign out front. No reason has been given for its closure, and this is the last location to be in business (there had once been locations in such places as Las Vegas, Scottsdale, Los Angeles, New York, and Washington, D.C. but they are all gone).

The Boston location of Pink Taco debuted back in 2019.

Hawksmoor May Be Expanding to Boston's Fort Point Neighborhood

A small chain of steakhouses with roots overseas could be on its way to Boston.

According to a Bluesky post from @tomready.bsky.social, Hawksmoor is looking to open in the city's Fort Point neighborhood, with @fortpointer.bsky.social saying in the thread that it would move into a space within the Eli Lilly research and development center on Necco Street. The group of steakhouses and cocktail bars first started out in London in 2006 and currently has two location in the United States--in New York City and Chicago.

Hawksmoor has apparently reached out to the Fort Point neighborhood association for an upcoming meeting, so stay tuned for more details on their plans as they come in.

Celine Plans to Open in the Former Blue Dragon Space in Boston's Fort Point

A new dining and drinking spot from a local restaurant group may be on its way to a space near the Boston waterfront.

According to a presentation page within the fortpointneighborhood.org website, Celine is planning to open on A Street in the Fort Point neighborhood, moving into the space that had once been home to Ming Tsai's Blue Dragon which was open from 2013 until the start of the pandemic in 2020. The page mentions that the proposed restaurant and bar would blend "the timeless comfort of an American tavern with Montreal-French technique and soul," including such options as roast chicken, burgers, a rotating raw bar, and "tavern classics elevated by Montreal classics and subtle French technique," along with wine and cocktails.

Pastoral ARTisan Pizza + Kitchen + Bar in Boston's Fort Point Is Closing

A neighborhood restaurant near the Boston waterfront that is known in part for its wood-fired pizza is shutting down.

According to a source, Pastoral ARTisan Pizza + Kitchen + Bar in Fort Point is closing after business hours today, with Kobie Ali of the Congress Street spot saying the following in a Facebook post:

This is tough. I have never worked at a place I love more than Pastoral - ARTisan Pizza, Kitchen & Bar! Come hang for one last slice [today]!

Pastoral first opened in 2013, offering Neapolitan pizza along with pasta dishes and other Italian and Mediterranean options.

Elephantine Bakery Opens in Boston's Fort Point Neighborhood

A bit more than a year ago, it was reported that a popular bakery-cafe on the New Hampshire seacoast would be expanding to a space by the Boston waterfront, and now we have learned that it is in the process of getting up and running.

According to an article from boston.com, Elephantine Bakery has soft-opened in Fort Point this week (though it is closed today and will be reopening tomorrow), moving into a space on Congress Street just east of Fort Point Channel. The new location joins the original in Portsmouth, and it is an "old-world bakery" that offers baked goods and pastries with French and Mediterranean influences.

Little Wolf Coffee in Ipswich Is Expanding, Opening a Location in Boston's Fort Point/Seaport District Area

The people behind a coffee shop on the North Shore will be opening a second location, and this one will be by the Boston waterfront.

According to a Bluesky post from @conciergeboston.bsky.social, Little Wolf Coffee in Ipswich will soon be joined by a location in the Fort Point/Seaport District section of the city, moving into a space on Sleeper Street that had once been occupied by Hopsters. Based on the Ipswich shop, the upcoming outlet will likely offer coffee, baked goods, and pastries, though few details have been given as of yet other than the website saying "[this will be] our first cafe in Boston...let our little cafe be your first stop on your adventures in the Seaport."

Melissa Bartz and Chris Gatti first opened Little Wolf in Ipswich back in 2016.

Revival Cafe + Kitchen Opens in Boston's Fort Point

Early last year, it was reported that the people behind a growing local group of cafes would be opening a new location in South Boston, and it appears that the newest outlet that just opened is the one that they had been referring to.

According to an X post from @tom_ready, Revival Cafe + Kitchen is now open in the Fort Point neighborhood of Boston, moving into a space on the ground floor of the Lily building on Necco Street. The new shop joins others in downtown Boston, Cambridge's Alewife area, Somerville's Davis Square, Watertown, and Lexington, and Steve "Nookie" Postal and Liza Shirazi are behind all of the locations.

Elephantine Bakery in Portsmouth Is Expanding to a Second Location in Boston's Fort Point Neighborhood

It looks like a bakery-cafe on the New Hampshire seacoast will be joined by a second location in Boston.

According to a licensing board hearing page within the city's website, Elephantine Bakery is planning to open in the Fort Point neighborhood, moving into a space on Congress Street. This jibes with an earlier FPNA notice saying that the business, which is "an old world café" would be seeking a beer, wine, and cordials license, while the recent hearing notice mentions that it plans to have a front window seating area, service bar area, and main dining area with seating for about 65 people.

The original Elephantine Bakery can be found in Portsmouth, offering foods with Middle Eastern and Mediterranean influences.

Headroom Opens within Trillium in Boston's Fort Point Neighborhood

A brand new "hi-fi lounge" and cocktail bar has come to a space near the Boston waterfront, and the people behind a local brewery are running the place.

According to a press release, Headroom is now open in the city's Fort Point neighborhood, moving into the second-floor space above Trillium on Thomson Place. The new spot includes "thousands" of vinyl LPs featuring a variety of genres, which patrons can listen to over cocktails (including non-alcoholic versions) and Trillium beers, along with such food items as deviled eggs, parsnip latkes, spring lamb, a cherry sorbet bowl, chocolate cake, and more.

In addition to Trillium's Fort Point location, the beermaker also has locations in the Fenway and in Canton, along with a seasonal beer garden on the Greenway in downtown Boston.

Citrus & Salt Is Reborn in Boston's Fort Point Neighborhood

A well-known local chef and restaurateur has opened one of his dining spots in a new location.

According to its website, Citrus & Salt is now open on A Street in Boston's Fort Point, with the restaurant moving from its former home on Berkeley Street in the Back Bay. As mentioned in an earlier article here, Jason Santos moved the dining spot--which focuses on coastal dishes from Southern California and Mexico--into the former Oak + Rowan space, which has more room than the original space.

In addition to Citrus & Salt, Santos also runs a couple of Southern-style restaurants--Buttermilk & Bourbon in the Back Bay, and Nash Bar & Stage in the Theatre District.

Just Salad to Open in Boston's Fort Point and Burlington

A New York-based salad chain that recently opened a second Boston-area location has more expansion plans for the region, with at least two more coming to the local area.

According to a web page, Just Salad is opening locations in Boston's Fort Point and in Burlington, joining existing locations in the Financial District and in Needham, the latter of which is having a grand opening celebration this week. Based on the other outlets, expect to see such options as salads, salad wraps, warm bowls, soups, smoothies, and more at the new spots.

Just Salad got its start with a location on Park Avenue in Manhattan in 2006, and currently has more than 80 locations in 7 states, mostly on the East Coast.

Barbara Lynch Is Closing Drink, Menton, and Sportello in Fort Point "Immediately"

Three well-known dining and drinking spots near the Boston waterfront have abruptly closed.

An article in the Boston Business Journal states that Drink, Menton, and Sportello are shutting down "immediately," with owner Barbara Lynch's organization citing an "uncooperative landlord" as a reason. The article mentions that Lynch's other restaurants, including No. 9 Park in Beacon Hill, B&G Oysters in the South End, and Rudder in Gloucester will remain open, while two other spots from Lynch--The Butcher Shop and Stir--are being sold.

Drink (a cocktail lounge), Menton (a high-end French restaurant), and Sportello (an Italian dining spot) are all located on Congress Street.

Jason Santos Plans to Open a Restaurant in the Former Oak + Rowan Space in Boston's Fort Point

A well-known local chef and restaurateur is looking to open another dining spot, and this one would take over the space that had previously been home to an upscale Fort Point restaurant.

According to a Twitter/X post from @FortPointer, Jason Santos (Buttermilk & Bourbon, Citrus & Salt, Nash Bar & Stage) gave information on a proposed new restaurant at an FPNA gathering this week, with the dining spot looking to move into the former Oak + Rowan space on A Street. The post indicates that Santos would use the existing furniture, fixtures, and equipment within the space, and there would be no changes to the layout other than the addition of an outdoor patio.

Oak + Rowan closed in the spring of 2022 after being in business for a bit more than five years; owner Nancy Batista-Caswell (and the Caswell Restaurant Group) is also behind Brine in Newburyport.

Boqueria Opens in the Fort Point Section of Boston

Last summer, it was reported that a group of tapas spots based in New York City was planning to expand to a space by the Boston waterfront, and now we have learned that it has debuted.

According to a check on the place, Boqueria opens today for dinner service in the Fort Point section of the city, moving into a space on Thomson Place between Congress Street and Seaport Boulevard. As mentioned earlier, the new spot focuses on small plates, though the menu also shows such full meals as paella, roasted chicken, hanger steak, and pork, while featuring an extensive wine list along with an array of cocktails and spirits.

Boqueria mentions on its website that it plans to introduce brunch service on September 16 and lunch service on September 18.

A Boston-based company known for its apparel and accessories may be opening a coffee shop within the city.

According to a tweet from @FortPointer, Life Is Good Coffee House is looking to open by the corner of Summer Street and Melcher Street in the Fort Point area, with a post from Fort Point Boston mentioning that it is requesting a Common Victualler License while a page within http://fortpointneighborhood.org/ shows the following note from Life Is Good:

Our brand has been headquartered in Fort Point for several years .We recently moved from Melcher Street up the block to Summer Street. We inherited a Retail space previously occupied by Café Metro, and feel strongly that a Coffee House concept is more suitable to the area than a Life is Good Retail store.

If all goes as planned, Life Is Good Coffee House--which would have 20 seats inside the space--could be opening in October.

Last fall, it was reported that a Connecticut-based group of Asian restaurants was planning to expand to Boston, and now we have learned that the place is up and running.

According to an article from Eater Boston, Mecha Noodle Bar is now open in the city's Fort Point neighborhood, moving into a space on Thomson Place near where Fort Point and the Seaport District meet. The new location joins another in Brookline's Coolidge Corner that opened a few months ago, and as mentioned in an earlier article, the menu includes noodle dishes with Southeast Asian, Chinese, Japanese, and Korean influences.

Boqueria Plans to Open in Boston's Fort Point Neighborhood

A new dining spot may be on its way to Boston's waterfront area, and it apparently has a connection to a group of tapas spots based in New York City.

According to a licensing board hearing page within the city's website, Boqueria is planning to open in Fort Point, with the address indicating that it will be moving into a space on Thomson Place between Congress Street and Seaport Boulevard. [ED NOTE: We have been told that while the address is the same as that of Bartaco, that restaurant will remain in the space.] The notice mentions that the proposed restaurant would have a main dining room with a bar in the center and that the full name listed is "Boqueria Tapas Bar and Restaurant"; it appears that this is the same Boqueria that has four locations in Manhattan and other outlets in Washington, DC, Chicago, and Nashville, based on the parent company's name (Boqueria Fort Point LLC) whose registered address of 150 West 28th Street in Manhattan is the same as that of Boqueria operations.

Moxies and Grace by Nia Are Both Coming to Boston's Seaport District

It looks like two new dining and drinking spots may be coming to the Boston waterfront.

A tweet from @FortPointer indicates (via a page from @FPNA_Boston) that Moxies hopes to open in the Ora building at 899 Congress Street and Grace by Nia plans to open at One Seaport Square, with the former being a full-service restaurant offering brunch, lunch, and dinner and having both indoor and outdoor seating, and the latter being a spot offering Southern comfort food and featuring live jazz. The notice also mentions that plans for Fort Point Tavern to open in the former Oak + Rowan space (which was mentioned in an earlier article here) have been "withdrawn for consideration," at least for now, while plans for Marcelino's Boutique Bar to open in the Former Daily Catch space--which had also been mentioned here earlier--are still in the works.

@FortPointer states that all of these were discussed in a Tuesday night meeting.

Update: Oak + Rowan in Boston's Fort Point Neighborhood Has Closed; Fort Point Tavern May Replace It

An upscale Fort Point restaurant has shut down after being in business for a bit more than five years.

According to a message sent from local restaurant critic and food/drinks feature writer MC Slim JB, Oak + Rowan on A Street is no longer in business, with an Instagram post from owner Nancy Caswell saying the following:

It is with great sadness that I announce the sale of Oak and Rowan. We all mourn when we lose one of our favorite restaurants because they provide us with so much more than food. They also nourish our soul, and when they are gone, part of the soul of the neighborhoods in which they resided is gone as well....I want to thank every wonderful guest and employee for supporting us. We welcomed hundreds of thousands of guests and employed incredible people over these years. I am extremely humbled that so many embraced our restaurant and that this amazing community allowed us to grow and succeed for as long as we did.

In the post, Caswell wishes "new ownership the best of luck," which indicates that a new dining spot will open in the space, though no details have been given as of yet.

Nancy Caswell and the Caswell Restaurant Group are also behind Brine in Newburyport.

Mooo.... Opens in Boston's Fort Point Neighborhood

Last summer, it was reported that a steakhouse in downtown Boston would be joined by a new location near the waterfront. Now we have learned that the new outlet is open.

According to a source, Mooo.... is now open in the city's Fort Point neighborhood, taking over the space on Melcher Street that had been home to Bastille Kitchen. A post within bostonchefs.com confirms this, saying that it debuted today for dinner and that the bar will open starting at 5:00 PM and dining being available starting at 5:30 Tuesday through Saturday.

In addition to the new Fort Point location of Mooo.... and the original restaurant in Beacon Hill, another outlet will be coming to Burlington this spring, moving into the old L'Andana space.
