News Elsewhere: Cooke's Seafood in Hyannis Is Closing

Another Cape Cod institution is going to be closing its doors permanently.

According to a source, Cooke's Seafood in Hyannis is shutting down for good later this fall, with a Facebook post from the place confirming this, saying the following in a Facebook post:

After 43 seasons, Cooke's Seafood in Hyannis is closing its doors for the last time on Sunday, November 29, 2020. The Haidas Family is proud to have consistently served the best in seafood with a friendly smile. Our customers' dedication to Cooke's has been a blessing, and we thank each of you for your support throughout the decades. We are also grateful to our long time staff, who have always been part of our family. Please join us this fall so we can thank you in person and say a proper goodbye to a long standing tradition.

Cooke's is known in part for its fried seafood options including such dishes as fried oysters, clams, shrimp, scallops, sole, and calamari, while also offering broiled and grilled seafood, lobster rolls, stuffed quahogs, and more.

A few other well-known Cape Cod restaurants have closed over the past few months, including The Lobster Claw in Orleans and the Roadhouse Cafe in Hyannis, the latter of which is for sale and shuttered "for the foreseeable future." (It appears that Cooke's Seafood locations in Mashpee and Orleans will remain in operation, though if we hear otherwise, we will post an update here.)

News Elsewhere: Roadhouse Cafe Food + Drink in Hyannis Is Up for Sale

A casual upscale restaurant on the Cape that has gained much recognition over the years is on the market.

According to a source, Roadhouse Cafe Food + Drink in Hyannis is for sale, with a picture of the South Street spot indeed showing a "For Sale" sign out front. Earlier, a note on the restaurant's website mentioned that "...due to the restrictions brought about by COVID-19, the Roadhouse Cafe is closed for the foreseeable future. Thank you for your loyalty and support over the years" while also referring people to its other dining spots, including Colombo's Cafe & Pastries, The Black Cat Tavern, Black Cat Harbor Shack, and the Shack Out Back, all of which are in Hyannis and all of which are open for the season (outdoor dining only for now).

Roadhouse Cafe Food + Drink, which has been in business for nearly 40 years, is known in part for its steak and seafood dishes along with its piano bar, with the restaurant being featured on WCVB's Chronicle along with Cape Cod Life, Boston Magazine, and other publications and media outlets, according to its site.

News Elsewhere: Pufferbellies Nightclub in Hyannis to Be Replaced by a Ferry Parking Lot

An infamous Cape Cod nightclub and entertainment complex has been sold, and it will eventually be replaced by a parking lot for people heading to the islands.

The Cape Cod Times is reporting that Pufferbellies Nightclub in Hyannis (and its property) has been bought by "a trust on behalf of Hy-Line Cruises," with the property slated to be turned into off-site parking for the ferry company that runs boats to and from Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket. The article mentions that the club still has a two-year lease, so it will remain open this summer and may be open next summer as well if it decides to do so; once the lease runs out, redevelopment will begin.

Pufferbellies first opened in the early 1980s and was one of a number of clubs that were wildly popular with college students for many years. The complex has also had its share of problems over the years, with the club losing its license for a week back in 2011 because of a number of violent incidents, according to an earlier Cape Cod Times article.
