USA Today Includes 10 Boston Restaurants Among Its List of Most Popular Valentine's Day Spots

USA Today has come out with a list of most popular Valentine's Day restaurants, and 10 Boston dining spots are mentioned in the article.

The list, which shows restaurant picks for 10 cities based on the most Facebook check-ins on and around Valentine's Day, includes Blue Dragon, Salvatore's, Top of the Hub, Tokyo Japanese Steak House, Mare, Grill 23 & Bar, Da Vinci, FiRE+iCE, The Vault, and Mooo Restaurant. (Note: It is assumed that USA Today is referring to Bisuteki Tokyo Japanese Steak House in Cambridge, though there are three other restaurants called Tokyo Japanese Steak House in Braintree, Chestnut Hill, and Saugus as well.) USA Today says that Facebook excluded chain restaurants among these lists, though small chains/groups of dining spots were included (such as Salvatore's and FiRE+iCE).

Other cities in the USA Today list include Atlanta, Chicago, Houston, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Miami, New York City, San Francisco, and Washington, DC.

USA Today, Zagat Include El Sarape in Braintree Among Top Mexican Picks

A national daily newspaper and a popular restaurant guide have given their top picks for Mexican food, and a dining spot south of Boston has made the list.

According to USA Today and Zagat, El Sarape in Braintree is one of 20 eateries picked, with the restaurant (which is located on Commercial Street on the Braintree/Weymouth line) being mentioned along with high-end spots such as Topolobampo in Chicago and cheap eats places such as R&R Taqueria in the Baltimore area. Other places mentioned in the list include Mercadito Grove in New York City and Paloma Mexican Haute Cuisine in Philadelphia.

USA Today, Zagat Include Parker's Restaurant in Boston Among Most Iconic Restaurants in USA

A national daily newspaper and a popular restaurant guide have given their picks for the most iconic dining spots in the United States, and a high-end place in downtown Boston has made the list.

According to USA Today and Zagat, Parker's Restaurant within the Omni Parker House Hotel on School Street is one of 15 eateries picked as iconic spots, where "a famous dish, local cuisine, decor, service or history make an out-of-towner feel as though they're a part of a city or even a regular customer." The article mentions that Zagat's reviewers had actually looked at Mamma Maria in Boston's North End as being a Boston icon, but the editors at Zagat decided to go with Parker's instead, with editors and reviewers noting that the "glorious" restaurant is "the only place to go for Parker House rolls and Boston cream pie," and that it is "where the elegance of another era thrives via old-time, pricey New England eats, beautiful, formal digs and wonderful service."

Other picks on the list include The Four Seasons in New York, City Tavern in Philadelphia, and Old Ebbitt Grill in Washington, DC.

USA Today, Zagat Include Mr. Bartley's in Cambridge Among Best Burger Picks in USA

A national daily newspaper and a popular restaurant guide have given their picks for the best hamburgers in the United States, and a Cambridge restaurant has been included in the list.

According to USA Today and Zagat, Mr. Bartley's in Harvard Square is among the best burger places in 25 cities across America. The article says of the restaurant, "If burgers are the foundation of civilization, Mr. Bartley is a founding father, proclaim patty-partisans of this cash-only, bathroom-less Harvard Square restaurant with tiny communal tables."

Other burger picks in the article include Burger Joint in New York and Sketch in Philadelphia.

USA Today Includes Boston Among Its Picks for 10 Best Beer Cities in the World

USA Today has just come out with its picks for the 10 best beer cities in the world, and Boston is included in the list.

The newspaper's choices for "top-of-the-hops beer destinations" has Boston listed as #7, in between Dublin, Ireland and Portland, OR (Munich, Germany came in at #1). In its paragraph on  Boston, USA Today mentions the Samuel Adams brewery, the Harpoon Brewery, and keg bowling, with the newspaper including the bars Boston Beer Works, Deep Ellum, and the Sunset Grill & Tap in its post.

Other cities picked by USA Today include Denver, Montreal, Amsterdam, Milwaukee, Brussels, and Prague.

USA Today Includes Flour Bakery and Cafe Among Its Picks for Top Sandwiches

USA Today has come out with its picks for the best sandwich shops in the United States, and a bakery-cafe with locations in Boston and Cambridge is included in the article.

The newspaper's choices for top sandwich shops, which are a combination of picks from both Zagat and the panel of USA Today "Road Warriors," include Flour Bakery and Cafe, with the article noting its curried tuna, hummus, roasted lamb, and smoked turkey sandwiches. Other East Coast locations picked by the newspaper include Num Pang in New York City, John's Roast Pork in Philadelphia, Attman's Delicatessen in Baltimore, and C.F. Folks in Washington, DC.

USA Today, Zagat Include Area Four and Tico Among New Business-Travel Destinations

A popular restaurant guide has recommended (via a national daily newspaper) a handful of new restaurants in the country that are good places for business travelers, and two Boston-area restaurants are on the list.

According to USA Today, a listing of 14 such restaurants by Zagat Survey at seven business-travel destinations in the United States includes Area Four in Cambridge's Kendall Square and Tico in Boston's Back Bay. Zagat, which lists both spots as being moderate in cost, picked the two restaurants--and others--in part because business meals can be "the most mundane part of a trip," with visits to chain restaurants being all too common.

In addition to Area Four and Tico, Zagat also picked The Dutch and Empellon, both in New York, as well as several others in Chicago, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, San Franciso, and Washington, DC.

USA Today Includes Anna's Taqueria Among Its Burrito Picks

On Friday, USA Today came out with an article on great places in America to get a burrito, and a small group of eateries in the Boston area made the list.

According to the article (which was based on picks from an editor at Thrillist.com, Anna's Taqueria was chosen as one of "10 great places to bite into a big burrito" partly because of its wide variety of meat options and also because its spicy green sauce "has a lot of nice zip" without being overly hot. The article also mentions the fact that the burritos at Anna's are made right in front of the customers.

Anna's Taqueria has six locations in and around Boston, including one in Boston, two in Brookline, two in Cambridge, and one in Somerville.

A couple of other places that were picked by USA Today include Dos Toros Taqueria in New York and Pedro & Vinny's in Washington, DC.

News Elsewhere: USA Today Includes a Northampton Restaurant Among Its 51 Great Burger Joints

USA Today recently came out with a list of 51 great burger joints across the United States, and a restaurant in Northampton has been included within the list.

According to the article, Local Burger and Fries is the newspaper's pick for the state of Massachusetts, citing the grass-fed beef and locally source vegetables used for the hamburgers. USA Today also mentions the sweet potato fries served at the dining spot, which is located on Route 9 along the eastern edge of the downtown area.

In addition to hamburgers, Local Burger and Fries also offers turkey burgers, veggie burgers, portobello burgers, hot dogs, wings, French fries, onion rings, and milkshakes. The restaurant has a children's menu as well.
