Jahunger in Providence Is Expanding to a New Location in Cambridge

An Asian restaurant in Providence whose chef/owner was in the running for a prestigious award earlier this year is expanding to the local area.

According to an article from Boston Magazine, Jahunger on Wickenden Street in Fox Point is going to be joined by a second location on Brookline Street in Cambridgeport, featuring Uyghur cuisine (which is found in the northwest section of China), including such options as lamb dumplings, chicken stew, hand-pulled noodles, lamb skewers, and Asian chili with eggplant in garlic sauce. If all goes well, the new location of Jahunger could open in early May.

Subat Dilmurat, who runs Jahunger with his wife Nadira Parhat, made it to the semifinals of the 2024 James Beard Awards for Best Chef: Northeast.

The address for the new location of Jahunger is 272 Brookline Street, Cambridge, MA, 02139. The website for Jahunger can be found at https://www.jahunger.com/

[June 2 update: According to a Facebook post from Rachel Blumenthal of Boston Magazine, the Cambridge location of Jahunger is now open.]

Muqam Uyghur Kitchen Opens in the Hong Kong Supermarket/Super 88 Food Court in Allston

A new eatery has come to a popular food court, and it features dishes typically found in the far northwest part of China.

According to a source, Muqam Uyghur Kitchen is now open in the Hong Kong Supermarket/Super 88 Food Court (also known as the Food Connection) in Allston, with a check on the menu indicating that the dining spot offers such options as dry fried noodles with beef and leeks, lamb noodle soup, chicken kebabs, stir-fried eggplant with noodles, whole fish, spicy tofu, scrambled eggs with stir-fried tomatoes, and meat pies with beef and onion.

Based on a photo sent to us, it appears that Muqam Uyghur Kitchen offers halal food which is prepared according to Islamic dietary guidelines.

Silk Road Uyghur Cuisine Is Opening in the Vittorio's Grill and Kitchen Space in Brookline

A Cambridge restaurant that features Central Asian cuisine is expanding to Brookline.

According to an article from Wicked Local, Silk Road Uyghur Cuisine is opening on Beacon Street, taking over the space where Vittorio's Grill and Kitchen currently resides. Once the new location opens, expect to see dishes that are typically found in the far northwest part of China (including kebabs, mutton, kebabs, and roasted fish and rice), with most of the food being halal. It looks like work could begin on the space in early May, possibly taking one or two weeks to complete.

The Cambridge location of Silk Road Uyghur Cuisine, which resides on Cambridge Street, first opened in June of 2017.

The address for the new location of Silk Road Uyghur Cuisine in Brookline is 1398 Beacon Street, Brookline, MA, 02446. The website for the original location in Cambridge is at https://www.silkroadcambridge.com/

Thanks to Adam Gaffin of Universal Hub for initially bringing this to our attention.

Silk Road Express Opens at Hong Kong Supermarket/Super 88 Food Court in Allston

A new dining spot has come to a food court in Allston, and it has a connection to a Cambridge restaurant that features a type of cuisine that is very difficult to find in the region.

According to a poster within the Friends of Boston's Hidden Restaurants Facebook group page, Silk Road Express is now open within the Hong Kong Supermarket/Super 88 food court in Allston, with the poster indicating that it is an outpost of Silk Road Uyghur Cuisine on Cambridge Street. Based on the original location and the picture posted within the group page, it appears that the new eatery is focusing on Uyghur fare, which is typically found in the far northwest part of China and includes such items as dry fried noodles, diced noodles, lamb kebabs, stir-fried lamb, wontons, dumplings, and more.

Update: Pronto Uyghur Cuisine Opens in Cambridge; Plans to Change Name to Silk Road

[Ed note: This article was edited on June 19 to reflect an upcoming name change that is in the works.]

A new restaurant has come to Cambridge, and it features a type of cuisine that is nearly impossible to find in the Boston area.

According to a tweet from @liuliuliu, Pronto Uyghur Cuisine is now open on Cambridge Street in East Cambridge in the former Pronto Cafe space, with another Twitter post showing a menu that includes such items as a chicken plate, dry fried noodles, diced noodles, lamb kebabs, stir-fried lamb, wontons, dumplings, pilaf, smoothies, and more. The new restaurant is the only spot in the Boston area that focuses on Uyghur fare, which is typically found in the far northwest part of China; a food truck called Uyghur Kitchen had once been in the local area, but it is no longer in operation. (An article from the Worcester Telegram from a couple of year ago mentioned that Uyghur Kitchen owner Payzulla Polat was hoping to open a restaurant in Cambridge, but it has not yet been confirmed that this is his place.)

The address for this new restaurant in East Cambridge is: Pronto Uyghur Cuisine, 645 Cambridge Street, Cambridge, MA, 02141.

[June 22  update: Eater Boston states that Pronto Uyghur Cuisine is really just a temporary name (and it also continues to have the old Pronto Cafe sign up), as it is waiting on approval for a name change to Silk Road.]
