A highly-anticipated new spot featuring cocktails, art, and music has come to a new development in one of the hottest sections of Somerville.
Eater Boston is reporting that Create Gallery & Cocktail Lounge is now open at Bow Market in the Union Square section of Somerville, moving into a space on the second level of the complex which is located between Somerville Avenue and Bow Street. As mentioned before, the new place is run by Louis DiBiccari, who has also been involved with such spots as the now-closed Tavern Road in Boston's Fort Point and Eater says that parts of that place will "live on" at Create, which is a permanent version of his annual Create event geared toward chefs, bartenders, artists, and musicians. Food will apparently not be offered at Create, but patrons can bring food in from other places at Bow Market, while draft cocktails whose recipes come from local bartenders will be served at the place (a small selection of beer, wine, and cider will also be available as well). Eater says that art will be available for purchase as well, and music playlists will come from local DJs and others.

The Gallery Opens Underneath Yvonne's in Downtown Boston

A downtown Boston restaurant that resides in an iconic space has been joined by a hidden basement spot that offers a mix of art, culture, and dining.
According to a press release, the Gallery is now open below Yvonne's, a high-end "supper club" that took over the former Locke-Ober space on Winter Place in late 2015. The new space is accessed through Yvonne's Library Lounge by way of a hidden bookshelf door, with the downstairs space having rotating art exhibits and seven tables where diners can order from Yvonne's food and drinks menus.
The space in which the Gallery resides is the former Rebel Room, which had been used for private events and large groups; when Locke-Ober resided in the space, the downstairs room was actually called Yvonne's, a members-only club that inspired the name of the current restaurant.
Yvonne's (and the Gallery) can be found at 3 Winter Place in the Downtown Crossing section of Boston.

Create Gallery & Cocktail Lounge Plans to Open at Bow Market in Somerville's Union Square

One of the owners of a now-closed restaurant and cocktail spot in Boston's Fort Point--and the person behind a popup in the South End--is opening a new dining and drinking place at a recently-opened development in Somerville.
According to an article from Eater Boston, Louis DiBiccari of the shuttered Tavern Road along with Humaari (at Wink & Nod) is planning to open Create Gallery & Cocktail Lounge at Bow Market in Union Square, with the post stating that the idea for the upcoming spot comes from Create Boston, a celebration of food and art through events held in the local area. The brick-and-mortar location of Create will also focus on food, drink, art, and music, including the selling of art, promotions set up via social media, and 45- to 60-day residencies for artists, while bartenders from the Boston area and elsewhere will help collaborate on cocktails offered at the place. If all goes as planned, Create Gallery & Cocktail Lounge plans to open this fall.
Bow Market, which features a variety of businesses and food/drink vendors, is located between Somerville Avenue and Bow Street in Union Square.

Update: The Middle Gray in Brookline Village Has Closed; Looking for New Space
[Ed note: This article was updated on April 24 to reflect new information given on the business.]
It looks like a multi-concept spot in Brookline has closed at least part of its business.
According to Patrick Maguire of Maguire Promotions & Hospitality Consulting, The Middle Gray on Station Street in Brookline Village has posted a sign out front saying that its coffee shop is currently closed, though its art gallery remains open from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM on weekdays. The sign also says that the place will have weekly live music performances where food and drink will be offered, and that patrons should check the social media pages of the business for updates, including event dates.
The Middle Gray first opened in August of 2015, taking over the space where Olea Cafe and a yarn shop had been. The original concept included a coffee shop/cafe, art gallery, wine bar, and performance space.

The Middle Gray Is Opening in Brookline Village
A new spot is coming to Brookline Village, and it will offer food, drink, and much more.
Eater Boston is reporting (via The Brookline TAB) that The Middle Gray is planning to open by the corner of Station Street and Washington Street, taking over the space where the now-closed Olea Cafe and a yarn shop used to be. The articles says that the upcoming place will apparently be a mix of a coffee shop, cafe, art gallery, wine bar, and performance space, with owners Catalina Piedrahita and Alvaro Morales looking to have it be more of a cafe at breakfast and lunch and more of a wine bar at dinner. The food at The Middle Gray will have South American influences, with Colombian arepas being one item offered, according to the TAB.
If all goes as planned, The Middle Gray could be opening sometime in July.

Channel Cafe in Boston's Fort Point District Closes; Could Become Verrine in Newton
A basement-level restaurant and art gallery in the Fort Point neighborhood of Boston has closed its doors and could apparently reopen under a new name in a western suburb of the city.
Grub Steet Boston is reporting that the Channel Cafe on Summer Street is no longer in business, with the people behind the eatery deciding to try to move the place to Newton, where it could be called Verrine. The article mentions that the new restaurant, which would be located on Washington Street in the Newtonville section of the city, would be more "elaborate" with an expanded menu. The folks behind the upcoming Verrine are waiting for approval of a liquor license; if all goes well, the dining spot could be opening this spring. (It is not known whether the new spot will also have an art gallery within the space.)
[October 8 update: Plans for Verrine have apparently fallen through, as the folks behind the Channel Cafe are now looking to open a restaurant in South Easton.]
Last month it seemed like the closing of the Channel Cafe was imminent, as Universal Hub posted that Restoration Hardware (now known as RH) in the Back Bay had been looking to purchase the beer and wine license from the Fort Point eatery.
The Channel Cafe was a place that our sister site (Boston's Hidden Restaurants) had featured as an under-the-radar spot that was worth checking out for its eclectic surroundings and freshly-made traditional and New American dishes. A review of the restaurant can be found below:

Voltage Coffee and Art in Cambridge May Extend Hours, Start Serving Beer and Wine
It looks like changes may be coming to a coffeehouse in the Kendall Square section of
Cambridge, with extended hours and the addition of alcoholic beverages planned for the spot.
Based on information for an upcoming City of Cambridge License Commission General Hearing, Voltage Coffee & Art on Third Street is looking to extend its hours to 7:00 AM to 9:00 PM seven days a week (hours are currently 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM Monday through Friday and 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM on Saturdays), and the place is also applying for a "wine & malt beverages as a restaurant license," with beer and wine served inside the eatery (though there would be no alcohol service for the outdoor patio). The meeting to discuss both of these items is going to be held on Tuesday, September 11, 2012, at the Lombardi Building in Central Square.

Liquid Art House Is Opening in Boston
A new restaurant and lounge is coming to Boston, and it looks like the place will also include an art gallery.
The Boston Business Journal reports that Liquid Art House is going to be opening on Arlington Street, with the eatery moving into the former Boston Renaissance School building (just south of the Stuart Street/Columbus Avenue intersection). The Boston Globe mentions that the new spot will be a combination restaurant/lounge/art gallery, with international fare offered on the menu, including Lithuanian dishes. Jeffrey Fournier, who is the chef/owner of 51 Lincoln in Newton Highlands, has been hired for the place, according to the Boston Business Journal.
Expect a spring 2013 opening for Liquid Art House.
[September 20, 2013 update: It appears that plans to open Liquid Art House are finally moving ahead, as a City of Boston licensing board page for an upcoming meeting indicates that a liquor license transfer will be looked at for the place, with the notice also saying that the planned spot would have three rooms including a dining area, a room with more dining and a bar, and a private dining section.]

Voltage Coffee and Art Opening in Kendall Square, Cambridge
A new coffeehouse is opening this week in the Kendall Square section of Cambridge, and the shop will also be selling artwork as well.
According to their Twitter page, Voltage Coffee & Art is having a soft opening on Wednesday, November 3 on Third Street (at the Binney Street intersection), bringing to the area a place to get espresso, cappuccino, lattes, chai, tea, and Italian soda, as well as sandwiches, toast, and chocolates. Some of the lattes being offered at Voltage Coffee & Art include lime peel and agave, molasses and lemon zest, homemade caramel and salt, and vanilla with burnt sugar.
Voltage Coffee started out in the fall of 2008 as a Jamaica Plain-based mobile catering service, doing a variety of events throughout the Greater Boston area. It appears that the mobile operation will remain in operation, according to the Barismo website.
