Shake Shack May Be Opening in Braintree

Last month, it was reported that a chain of restaurants could be expanding to a space just off Route 3 on the South Shore, and now we have learned that another chain may be expanding there as well.

According to an article from the Patriot Ledger, Shake Shack is looking to open a new location in Braintree, moving into the site on Union Street that had once been home to a Motel 6. These plans appear to be in their early stages, but if it happens, the dining spot could be joining an outlet of Cava at the site as well, though plans for that restaurant are also in their early stages as well.

Currently, the only other South Shore location of Shake Shack is at the Derby Street Shoppes in Hingham (this outlet is also just off Route 3).

The address for the proposed location of Shake Shack in Braintree is 125 Union Street, Braintree, MA, 02184. The website for the chain is at https://shakeshack.com/

Stacks in Haverhill Is Closing

A riverside restaurant and bar north of Boston that is known in part for its sandwiches and boozy milkshakes is going to be closing its doors.

According to a source (Gary Goldblatt), Stacks in Haverhill is shutting down, with a Facebook post from the Washington Street spot saying the following:

It's with mixed emotions that we announce the closure of STACKS, effective at the end of the day this Sunday. We want to extend our heartfelt gratitude to each and every one of you who has supported us since our opening. Your patronage, smiles, and shared moments have made STACKS a special place in our hearts. Though we're closing this chapter, the memories and connections we've made will always hold a special place in our hearts. Thank you for being a part of the STACKS family.

Stacks was recently featured in Boston Globe Magazine as part of an ice cream feature (the section on Stacks was written by the writer of this blog), with a link to it being here:

The address for Stacks is 122 Washington Street, Haverhill, MA, 01832. Its website can be found at https://feedmestacks.com/

NOTE: We need your help, as Leslie Hurwitz, who is the father of Marc (the founder of this site) is dealing with health issues and some major related expenses. Please donate at https://gofund.me/76d8ba28, thanks!

Shake Shack to Open at Legacy Place in Dedham

A New York-based group of burger and shake places continues its expansion plans into the Boston area, with a new one now planned for an open-air retail center a short distance southwest of the city.

According to one of our readers, Shake Shack is going to be opening a new location at Legacy Place in Dedham, with a check on its Twitter page confirming this. Once it opens, this will either be the third or the fourth shop to come to the Boston area, depending on when its location on Newbury Street in the Back Bay opens (it looks like that one could open next spring, while the Dedham shop is planning to open in the middle of 2015).

[February 26, 2015 update: According to a press release, the Dedham location of Shake Shack opens on Sunday, March 1.]

Currently, two locations of Shake Shack can be found at The Street at Chestnut Hill and in Cambridge's Harvard Square.

The website for all of the locations of Shake Shack can be found at http://www.shakeshack.com/

Cheeburger Cheeburger Is Opening in Swampscott

A Florida-based chain of burger places is going to be opening its first New England location in a suburb north of Boston.

A Twitter post from North Shore Dish indicates (via the Swampscott Patch) that Cheeburger Cheeburger plans to open in Swampscott, with the eatery moving into the space in Vinnin Square where City Bar & Grill used to be. Once it opens (possibly in the winter), expect to see 20-ounce burgers--as well as smaller sizes--along with fries, salads, wraps, hot dogs, shakes, and more.

[May 19, 2014 update: According to a new article in the Swampscott Patch, Cheeburger Cheeburger is now open.]

The menu for Cheeburger Cheeburger shows more than 8 million burger combinations and more than 1 million flavor combinations for its shakes.

The address for this new burger spot in Swampscott is: Cheeburger Cheeburger, 435 Paradise Road, Swampscott, MA, 01907. The website for the chain can be found at http://cheeburger.com/

Somerville Licensing Officials Question Burger Dive's Plan for Spiked Milkshakes, Wine and Beer

A fast-casual burger restaurant in Somerville is planning to serve alcohol, and while the city has given its approval, it apparently isn't too happy about it.

The Somerville Journal reports that the Licensing Commission approved an all-forms liquor license for Burger Dive in a 3-1 vote last week, though two of the officials questioned giving such a license to what they see as a family-friendly fast-food burger joint. The article quotes licensing commissioner John McKenna as saying "I'm disappointed that we've come into 2013 with this promised development and it's come down to giving a burger joint an all-forms," with commissioner Vito Vaccaro (who voted against it) comparing the Assembly Row eatery to McDonald's and Burger King.

In addition to wine and beer, Burger Dive also wants to offer spiked milkshakes.

Burger Dive is part of the Legendary Restaurant Group, which includes such spots as Papagayo, Max and Dylans, Sip, and Avery Provision. The website for the restaurant can be found at http://www.burgerdive.com/
