Results of Twitter Steak and Cheese Poll

Our latest Twitter poll has just been tallied, with this one centering around the best steak and cheese sandwich in the Boston area. Our previous polls have included an ice cream poll (Richardson's in Middleton won), a roast beef poll (Nick's Famous Roast Beef in Beverly), a chicken wing poll (Buff's Pub in Newton), a macaroni and cheese poll (Fat Cat in Quincy), a fried clam poll (JT Farnham's in Essex), an onion ring poll (Mr. Bartley's Burger Cottage in Cambridge), a hot dog poll (Spike's Junkyard Dogs), a pizza poll (Santarpio's in East Boston), a burger poll (Mr. Bartley's Burger Cottage), and a lobster roll poll (Neptune Oysters in the North End). OpenTable to Debut OpenTable Spotlight in Boston and New York

Online reservations provider OpenTable begins a new service today in Boston and New York that looks like it will compete with GroupOn, LivingSocial, and other websites that offer daily or weekly deals.

According to the Mashable blog, the new OpenTable Spotlight will be offering weekly restaurant deals to diners, with the first deal being $25 for $50 at a secret dining spot in Boston or New York. The OpenTable website describes the process--the first step is for diners to check their emails for deals (which will likely be 50% off or more); the second step is to purchase the deal before it disappears (and tell friends); and the third step is to print out the deal certificate and bring it to the restaurant.

OpenTable first started out in 1999 and is now the world's most popular restaurant reservations site, with more than 13,000 dining spots currently using the site to help bring people into their restaurants.

Wicked Fire Kissed Pizza Opening at Legacy Place in Dedham

A Cape Cod restaurant that features organic pizzas is going to be opening a new location in Dedham this fall.

According to their website, Wicked Fire Kissed Pizza in Mashpee is opening a restaurant at Legacy Place, a shopping, dining and entertainment complex just north of the intersection of Routes 1 and 128. An article in the Dedham Transcript/Wicked Local mentions that the eatery will have a capacity of just under 250, with most seating on the first floor of the Showcase Cinema de Lux building, and some more seating on both a mezzanine and in an outdoor dining area. There will also be a bar inside the restaurant.

[October 5 update: According to the restaurant's website, the new Wicked Fire Kissed Pizza should be opening in Dedham sometime in November.]

The original Wicked Fire Kissed Pizza, which is located on Route 28 in Mashpee (just west of the Route 151 intersection), features pizzas made with certified organic ingredients as well as locally sourced food items. The pizzas made at the dining spot are cooked in a stone hearth oven that reaches a temperature of 700 degrees. In addition to pizzas, the restaurant also offers salads, burgers, dinner entrees such as steak and seafood dishes, and desserts.

Adriatic Restaurant and Bar Opening in Salem

It looks like a new Mediterranean dining spot is getting ready to open in Salem.

Based on photos shown on the Roost Facebook page, Adriatic Restaurant and Bar on Washington Street in the downtown section of the city has set up their outdoor patio and appears to be close to opening. Adriatic is moving into the space where the Edgewater Cafe, a Mexican restaurant and entertainment spot, used to be until closing last October. [August 10 update: According to a poster on the North Shore Dish Facebook page, Adriatic is now open.]

The Salem Massachusetts Restaurant Directory mentions that Adriatic Restaurant and Bar will focus on Turkish and Italian fare, and that the eatery will have a wood-burning oven that will be used for pizza and other food items. Expect seafood and pasta dishes to be on the menu at Adriatic, according to The Salem Massachusetts Restaurant Directory.

News Elsewhere: The Maine Diner in Wells to Be Featured on Guy Fieri's Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives

Food Network host Guy Fieri will be featuring another New England restaurant next week, with this one being a popular diner in Southern Maine.

According to the TV show's site, "Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives" will include The Maine Diner in Wells on Monday, August 9 between 10:00 PM and 10:30 PM. Guy Fieri had recently been in the area, checking out a number of restaurants in Massachusetts and Maine, including The Maine Diner, Greek Corner in Cambridge, and Rino's Place in East Boston.

The Maine Diner, which has been open on Route 1 near the Wells/Kennebunk border since 1983, features all kinds of classic American dishes, as well as a number of seafood items. Their menu includes chicken pot pie, macaroni and cheese, codfish cakes and beans, lobster pie, roast turkey, fried shrimp rolls, and chili dogs.

Charcoal Japanese Bistro May Be Replacing Min Sok In Brookline

It looks like a new Japanese restaurant might open in Brookline, and it could be replacing another spot that has featured Korean and Japanese food since opening about three years ago.

According to a planning board meeting page on the Town of Brookline website, a meeting will take place next week to discuss the installation of signs, an awning, and a patio at the location of the upcoming Charcoal Japanese Bistro. The new restaurant is apparently moving into the Harvard Street space between Coolidge Corner and Brookline Village where Min Sok has been since the summer of 2007. (Zoe's was located in this spot before Min Sok, and before that, Shalom Hunan.)

As soon as we receive more information on the possible opening of Charcoal Japanese Bistro, we will post an update here.

[July 14, 2011 update: According to a poster on Chowhound, Charcoal Japanese Bistro might not be opening in the former Min Sok space after all, as it appears that a day care center may be moving there (a document within the Town of Brookline website seems to back this up). In addition, a check on the Charcoal Japanese Bistro Facebook page indicates that the page hasn't been updated in about a year. If/when we receive more updates, we will post them here.]
