Ziggy Bombs Opens in Brookline

Last spring, it was reported that a Worcester dining spot known for its steak and cheese subs was expanding to the local area, and now we have learned that its new location is up and running.

According to a poster (Patrick Maguire) within the Friends of Boston's Hidden Restaurants Facebook group page, Ziggy Bombs is now open by Boston University in Brookline (right on the Boston line), with an Instagram post from the place yesterday saying "No April Fools We Are Now Open....Swing down and see us!" The new outlet offers an array of steak and cheese subs along with such items as smash burgers, chicken sandwiches, nachos, fries, onion rings, and more.

Ziggy Bombs Plans to Open by Boston University

A Worcester dining spot known for its steak and cheese subs is on its way to the local area.

According to a source, Ziggy Bombs is looking to open by Boston University, with the Instagram page showing posts hinting at this while also saying that locations in both Boston and Leicester are "coming soon." Ziggy Bombs, which has a brick and mortar on Franklin Street in Worcester along with a food truck, offers 10 different types of steak and cheese subs as well as wings, ribs, nachos, fries, onion strings, and "Ziggy Pops."

Willy's Phillys in Maynard Is Open Once Again

A Maynard sub shop that closed its doors less than two months ago has reopened under new management.

According to the Eye on Maynard Facebook page, Willy's Phillys has reopened in the same location as before, on Main Street between Nason Street and the Acton Street/Summer Street intersection in the center of town. Two new owners have taken over the eatery, which is known for its Philadelphia-style cheesesteaks, as well as other subs and sandwiches including roast beef.

Willy's Philly's first opened a little more than two years ago.

Al's Harvard Square Cafe Opening in Cambridge

A popular sandwich shop with locations in Boston's Financial District and Leather District is getting ready to open a third shop, with this one being in the Harvard Square section of Cambridge.

According to The Harvard Crimson, the owner of Al's State Street Cafe and Al's South Street Cafe will be opening Al's Harvard Square Cafe in the Holyoke Center on Mass. Ave. (between Dunster Street and Holyoke Street, on the eastern edge of the square). Based on the menus at the other two restaurants, Al's Harvard Square Cafe will likely offer soups, salads, and cold and hot subs, with their steak and cheese sub--a signature item at Al's--surely being on the menu.

Expect a fall opening for Al's Harvard Square Cafe.

Results of Twitter Steak and Cheese Poll

Our latest Twitter poll has just been tallied, with this one centering around the best steak and cheese sandwich in the Boston area. Our previous polls have included an ice cream poll (Richardson's in Middleton won), a roast beef poll (Nick's Famous Roast Beef in Beverly), a chicken wing poll (Buff's Pub in Newton), a macaroni and cheese poll (Fat Cat in Quincy), a fried clam poll (JT Farnham's in Essex), an onion ring poll (Mr. Bartley's Burger Cottage in Cambridge), a hot dog poll (Spike's Junkyard Dogs), a pizza poll (Santarpio's in East Boston), a burger poll (Mr. Bartley's Burger Cottage), and a lobster roll poll (Neptune Oysters in the North End). Willy's Phillys in Maynard Has Closed

A sub shop in Maynard that has featured Philadelphia-style cheesesteaks since opening about two years ago has closed its doors. According to moviequill, a follower of our hiddenboston Twitter page, Willy's Phillys on Main Street is no longer in business, and a picture that he sent us shows that there is a "For Sale" sign in the window of the space.

Willy's Philly's first opened in the summer of 2008, offering cheesesteaks with shaved steak and cheese whiz to customers, along with a variety of appetizers, salads, subs, and sandwiches. They were open for lunch and dinner seven days a week.
