Man Robs Restaurant, Orders Burger

Earlier this week, a Burger King in Western Massachusetts was robbed, and the suspect was apparently hungry for food as well as cash.

The Boston Herald reports that on Monday night, a man walked into the Holyoke location of the fast-food chain and demanded "all the money in the drawer" while also ordering a cheeseburger (presumably to go). The suspect showed no weapon, according to the article, but he had his hands in his pockets while waiting for the cash and the burger. (He made off with an undisclosed amount of money.)

The Herald says that as of Tuesday, the police were still looking for the thief.

Taste of Allston Coming June 15, 2013

A culinary event that features a wide variety of cuisines is returning to a Boston neighborhood this month.

On Saturday, June 15, the 16th annual Taste of Allston will take place at the Harvard University Murr Center on North Harvard Street from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM, with food, drink, and entertainment offered. Some of the restaurants that will be participating this year include the Allston Diner, Camino Real, Deep Ellum, Habanero's, Korean Garden, Pizzeria Regina, Roast Beast, Roxy's Gourmet Grilled Cheese, Shanghai Social Club, and a number of others, with beer provided by Sam Adams and entertainment from Bim Skala Bim.

Tickets to the 2013 Taste of Allston cost $25 and include entry to the event, food samplings, and three beer, wine, or liquor samplings (pints of Sam Adams will cost $5 each). For more information, please go to the link below:

Update: Taste of Cambridge to Be Held in Central Square, July 11, 2013

[ED NOTE: This event was supposed to have been held on Thursday, June 13, but because of the threat of rain, it was moved back to Tuesday, June 18. Now it has been postponed again because of rain, so it has been moved once again, this time to Thursday, July 11. (Thanks to Eater Boston for bringing the first bit of information here to our attention.)]

A food-based event returns to the city of Cambridge once again this month, and as always, a number of local eateries will be participating.

On Thursday, July 11, the 11th annual Taste of Cambridge will be held on Sidney Street and at University Common Park starting at 5:30 PM, with the event raising money for several nonprofits. In addition to tastings, there will also be a raw bar, craft beers, wines, cocktails, lawn games, and grills, along with DJs and live bands. A few of the restaurants and food purveyors that will be at Taste of Cambridge include Abigail's, Asgard, Bukowski Tavern, Craigie on Main, Formaggio Kitchen, Hong Kong Restaurant, Koreana, Puritan & Company, Toscanini's Ice Cream, Zinnekens, and many others.

Redstone American Grill Is Opening in Burlington's 3rd Ave (in the Middle of Northwest Park)

A small group of restaurants based in Minnesota is going to be opening its first location in Massachusetts, and it will open within new complex in Burlington.

According to a Facebook post, Redstone American Grill will be coming to 3rd Ave (a retail area that will be in the middle of the Northwest Park development), joining such businesses as Kings, Wegmans, and The Bancroft steakhouse. Its website indicates that Redstone is an upscale chain of eateries with seven locations in Minnesota, Illinois, Maryland, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania; their menu includes such items as buffalo shrimp, jerk chicken fondue, rotisserie turkey sandwiches, flatbreads, crusted halibut, prime rib, and pork chops. 3rd Ave and Northwest Park are located just north of the Burlington Mall.

An Tua Nua in Boston's Fenway Neighborhood Is Closing

An Irish pub in the Fenway section of Boston is getting ready to shut its doors for good after being in business for more than 15 years.

According to a Twitter post from the place, An Tua Nua on Beacon Street is closing this weekend, with Saturday being the last day. It is not known what might be going into the space, though a poster on the Chowhound site mentions that something may be reopening there at some point "with a new concept, same owners," though this has not yet been confirmed.

It appears that the sister bar of An Tua Nua--Phoenix Landing in Cambridge's Central Square--will remain open.

Mashawi Grill Is Opening in Brighton

A new Mediterranean restaurant is on its way to Brighton, moving into the space where a Brazilian dining spot and an international market had once been.

According to a job post on the Craigslist site, Mashawi Grill is getting ready to open and is currently looking to hire for all positions. A Google+ page for the eatery shows that it will be opening on Sutherland Road in the former Rio's Restaurant Buffet space (and before that, International and Natural Foods Co.). The Google+ page also indicates that Mashawi Grill may be opening on June 16. No other information can be found on the restaurant right now (their website is not running yet), so keep checking back for updates.

[October 1 update: According to its website, Mashawi Grill is now open, and it features such items as hummus, falafel, red lentil soup, tabouleh salad, and a variety of kabobs and wraps.]
