Wegmans Market Looks at a Fall Opening in Burlington

Nearly three years after first reporting on it, a huge supermarket that is coming to Burlington appears to be only months away from opening.

According to several ads in various newspapers, Wegmans is planning to open this fall.at 3rd Ave, an upcoming dining and entertainment "boulevard" that will be located within the Northwest Park development near Route 3 and the Burlington Mall. Based on earlier reports, the grocery store looks to be nearly 150,000 square feet in size, with a large market cafe area being a part of it. Once the market opens, it will join an existing location of Wegmans in Northborough as well as a soon-to-open location in Chestnut Hill. (Another store is likely coming to Westwood as well, though it is not known when it might open.)

Hi-Fi Pizza and Subs in Cambridge's Central Square Is Closing

It looks like a pizza place and sub shop in one of the busiest sections of Cambridge may be closing its doors after being in business for more than 40 years.

The Cambridge Chronicle & TAB is reporting that Hi-Fi Pizza & Subs on Mass. Ave. has shuttered, though a phone call placed by a source indicates that it remains open this afternoon and it is not known when (or if) the place is shutting down. As soon as we find out what the exact status of the place is, we will post an update here.

[March 13 update: It appears that Hi-Fi Pizza & Subs has indeed closed, as a check on the place last night showed that it was locked up and dark, and phone calls placed to the spot yesterday and today have gone unanswered.]

[March 21 update: A Twitter post from @honeybeejean gives further proof (via a note on the front of the place) that Hi-Fi Pizza & Subs is indeed closed for good.]

The Chronicle/TAB article says that the property manager was not willing to say whether Hi-Fi's lease was up, but the manager did say, however, that (again, if it is indeed closing) another restaurant would not be going into the space because it was not up to code and it would be too costly to maintain as an eatery (the manager mentioned that the exhaust system will be taken out).

The building in which Hi-Fi Pizza & Subs is housed was built in 1900, according to the article.

Fenway Franks Hot Dog Stand Coming to Lansdowne Street in Boston

It looks like a new hot dog stand is on its way to Boston, and its name is a very familiar one.

Universal Hub is reporting that a stand called Fenway Franks will be coming to Lansdowne Street by Fenway Park, with the Boston Red Sox being the operators of it. The article mentions that the stand will be running whenever the Sox are not playing, with hot dogs, burgers, and soda being served (beer will not be available). It is not yet known what hours the Fenway Franks stand will have, though Red Sox attorney Dennis Quilty indicates that the food-serving license for the organization technically allows food to be served as late as 2:00 AM.

The Red Sox are also apparently looking to set up a food truck on Yawkey Way, according to UH, though plans appear to be in the early stages, with the organization getting a formal request ready for the proposed truck.

Owners of Bibim in Allston Opening Meju in Somerville's Davis Square

[Ed note: This article was updated on December 29 to reflect a name change for the place.]

It looks like a Korean restaurant in Allston is expanding to one of the busiest sections of Somerville, taking over the space where a location of a burger chain had been.

Eater Boston is reporting that Bibim is looking to open a restaurant in Davis Square, moving into the former McDonald's site on Elm Street in the heart of the square. The article mentions that the restaurant is hoping to get both a common victualer license and a full liquor license, with The Somerville News Weekly mentioning that the city will hold a meeting on the liquor license on Monday, March 17.

The original Bibim can be found at 166 Harvard Avenue in Allston where Color Restaurant used to be. The restaurant offers such items as fish cakes, dumpling soup, kimchi pancakes, beef bulgogi, fried chicken, bibimbap, and bubble tea.

[March 18 update: Bibim appears to be one step closer to opening its new restaurant, as Eater Boston mentions (via @Ward5Online) that they have been granted a full liquor license.]

[December 29 update: A post from Eater Boston states that the new restaurant in Somerville from Bibim will actually be called Meju, and that it looks like it will be opening very soon.]

[January 16, 2015 update: Eater Boston mentions that Meju plans to open by the end of the month.]

[January 22, 2015 update: According to its Facebook page, Meju soft-opens today from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM and will continue to have a soft opening with the same hours through January 25.]

PawPupBoston (a Pop-Up Restaurant For Dogs) Is Coming to Boston

It looks like a new pop-up restaurant may be on its way to the Boston area, though this one apparently won't be for humans.

Eater Boston mentions that a new pop-up spot for dogs called PawPupBoston appears to be in the works for the area, with a Twitter post from the place saying that a sneak peek of the menu is coming next week. Very little information on PawPupBoston has been given, though its Twitter page has the phrase "Boston's Best Fine Dining Pop Up Restaurant For Pets." (And just in case some are wondering, another Twitter post from them says "Of course we're real!")

As soon as we find out more about PawPupBoston, we will post an update here.

[March 14 update: Zagat gives a bit more info on PawPupBoston, saying that the menu will be divided into six courses that are named after commands commonly used for dogs--for instance, "Sit" will be a nicoise salad of tuna, eggs and green beans while "Calm" will be a watermelon basil gazpacho shot--with unfinished food put into a "people bag." (It appears that dogs and their owners may even be able to share dishes, as a note says that "If you wish to share a meal with your pet, there is a nominal split plate fee.") The article also says that while PawPupBoston will focus on dogs, it may expand into offering food to cats at some point.]

Rustica Pizza Plans to Open in Roslindale

It looks like a new pizza spot may be coming to the Roslindale section of Boston, and it would be moving into the space where several other eateries have been.

Universal Hub is reporting that Rustica Pizza is looking to open on Belgrade Avenue at the site where Prime Time Pizza, Arbri Cafe, Boston Brickhouse, and Cafe Apollonia have all been. If the Boston Licensing Board approves of the dining spot at a hearing that is taking place this week, it would probably be open for lunch and dinner, with proposed hours being 11:00 AM to 11:00 PM.

The sign for Rustica Pizza is already up at the site, according to UH.
