Santouka Is Opening in Boston's Back Bay

Last summer, we reported that a chain of Japan-based ramen shops with a location in Cambridge might be opening a new shop in Boston, and while one of the areas being looked at apparently fell through, they will indeed be coming to the city.

According to an article from Eater Boston, Santouka is planning to open in the Back Bay, taking over the space on Hereford Street where the Asian restaurant Men-Tei had been for just under 20 years until closing in 2014. Initially, it had looked like the eatery could be coming to the city's Financial District, though at the time it was only considered a "potential spot." Once it opens, the Back Bay location of Santouka will join another on Bow Street in Cambridge's Harvard Square, along with others in a handful of states and Canada as well as Japan and other Asian countries.

Santouka could be opening its new shop as early as May, though no specific date has been given as of yet.

The address for this new ramen place in the Back Bay is: Santouka, 66 Hereford Street, Boston, MA, 02115.The website for the chain can be found at http://santouka.co.jp/en/

[May 4 update: A message from BostonZest indicates that the sign is now up for the upcoming Santouka in the Back Bay and it is now hiring, while a licensing board page within the city of Boston website mentions that the place will be seeking approval of a common victualler license next week.]

[June 27  update: BostonZest mentions the new location of Santouka is now open.]
