Koro Ramen & Sushi in East Boston Is Expanding, Opening a Second Location in Revere

The people behind a Japanese restaurant in East Boston are going to be opening a second location not all that far away.

According to an article from What Now Boston, Koro Ramen & Sushi is planning to open in Revere, moving into a space on Shirley Avenue. The new location, which will join the original on Sumner Street in Eastie, will have a similar menu including such options as poke bowls, gyoza, wings, and bao buns, in addition to ramen and sushi.

The East Boston location of Koro Ramen & Sushi debuted in the spring of 2025, moving into the space that had previously been home to Mehak; Scalzi Hospitality (Pazza on Porter, Next Door Speakeasy) is behind Koro.

Yakiniku Plans to Open in Waltham

It looks like a new Asian restaurant will be opening in the western suburbs of Boston.

According to a poster within the Friends of Boston's Hidden Restaurants Facebook group page, Yakiniku is looking to open in Waltham, moving into a space on Main Street just east of Prospect Street. A Waltham Times article says that the dining spot will focus on Korean BBQ, with burners in the tables for diners to cook all-you-can-eat meat, and the restaurant will offer ramen and sushi as well. If all goes well, Yakiniku could be opening sometime in May.

Kyuramen to Expand, Opening a New Location in Burlington

A chain of ramen restaurants with roots in New York City is expanding to a new space, with this one being in the northern suburbs.

According to an article from What Now Boston, Kyuramen is planning to open in Burlington, moving into a space on Wheeler Road just south of the Middlesex Turnpike/Route 128 intersection that had once been the site of Tweeter, Ski Haus, and GOLFTEC. The article mentions that the new location of the restaurant will have more of an upscale feel than the one in Brookline, including a "party room" and an expanded drink menu--and it will also share its space with a Japanese restaurant that is well-known in New York, though no name has been given as of yet. (Another location of Kyuramen can be found in Winchester.)

Kyuramen, which first started out in 2014, is headquartered in the Flushing section of Queens.

Ramen Haven in Berlin Is Expanding, Opening a New Location in Sudbury

A ramen spot west of Boston will be expanding to a space a bit closer to the city.

According to an article from What Now Boston, Ramen Haven in Berlin is planning to open a new location in Sudbury, moving into a space within the Meadow Walk mixed-use development on Route 20. The article mentions that a variety of ramen options will be offered, including new ramen options within its expanded menu such as Lobster Ramen and Uni Ramen, while other items will include gyoza, edamame, Wagyu rice bowls, tiramisu, matcha crepe cake, milk teas, and fruit slushes.

If all goes as planned, the new location of Ramen Haven will open on May 1.

Tama Sushi & Hibachi Opens in Natick

A bit more than a year ago, it was reported that a new Japanese restaurant was planning to replace another Japanese spot in the western suburbs of Boston, and now we have learned that it is up and running.

According to a source along with an article from the Natick Report, Tama Sushi & Hibachi is now open in Natick, and as mentioned in an earlier article here, it has taken over the former Oga's Japanese Cuisine space on Route 9. In addition to sushi and hibachi, the new restaurant also offer such options as ramen, nori tacos, bento boxes, dumplings, tempura, and more, though it doesn't appear to offer ramen, as had been previously mentioned when the plans were first announced in September of 2024.

Noodle Lab Reopens at Boston Public Market

 A noodle spot in downtown Boston has very quietly opened back up.

According to a source, Noodle Lab is open once again at Boston Public Market, with a licensing board page within the city's website confirming this while a Reddit thread mentions that it reopened about a week ago. The business, which debuted in 2015 with the opening of the marketplace, offers ramen dishes, rice bowls, and such small bites as gyoza, bao, and wontons.

Noodle & Doodles Ramen Is Opening in Needham

A new Asian restaurant will soon be opening in the western suburbs of Boston.

According to a Bluesky post from @jeremyk.bsky.social‬, Noodle & Doodles Ramen is coming soon to Needham, opening on Great Plain Avenue in the center of town. An article from the Needham Observer mentioned the plans approximately a year ago, saying at the time that Ray Zheng of Wen's Yunnan Noodles & Ramen in Boston was behind the spot and would "bring a more American ramen fusion with the traditional Japanese style."

The address for Noodle & Doodles Ramen is 998 Great Plain Avenue, Needham, MA, 02492.

Koro Ramen + Sushi Is Opening in East Boston

 A new option for Japanese fare is on its way to East Boston.

According to an article from Caught in Eastie and an earlier post from the East Boston Times-Free Press, Koro Ramen + Sushi is opening in the Jeffries Point area, with the address indicating that it is moving into the space on Sumner Street that had been home to Mehak. The East Boston Times-Free Press article mentions that Raffaele Scalzi (Pazza on Porter, Next Door Speakeasy and Raw Bar) is behind the place and Caught in Eastie says that Chef Harold (who brings "16 years of experience in sushi restaurants, a personal chef, and cooking classes") is also involved.

Kiin Is Opening in East Cambridge

A new Asian restaurant will soon be opening in Cambridge after being in the works for nearly two years.

According to a Bluesky post from @troysch1.bsky.social, Kiin looks like it is close to opening in the former Similans space on First Street in East Cambridge, with an Instagram post from @bostonbudgetplumbing this week seeming to confirm this, saying that "Our team is all smiles as we help @kiinthaisushi make necessary plumbing + gas repairs for their grand opening in Cambridge!" The Instagram page for the restaurant mentions that the restaurant will feature sushi, ramen, and Thai food while also saying that it is affiliated with Chicken & Co in North Cambridge.

Kyuramen Opens in Winchester December 15

Earlier this year, it was reported that a growing chain of ramen restaurants based in New York City was planning to expand to a location in the northern suburbs of Boston, and now we have learned that its opening is imminent.

According to an Instagram post, Kyuramen is slated to open in Winchester on Sunday, December 15, joining another outlet in Brookline that opened back in May. As mentioned in an earlier article here, the chain dates back to 2014 and is currently headquartered in the Flushing neighborhood of Queens, and based on the options at its other restaurants, the new one in Winchester could be offering approximately 10 ramen options on its menu.

Menya Jiro at Legacy Place in Dedham Has Closed

It looks like a ramen spot southwest of Boston has shut down.

According to a poster within the Friends of Boston's Hidden Restaurants Facebook group page, Menya Jiro at Legacy Place in Dedham is no longer in operation, with a check on the Legacy Place website seeming to confirm this as it has removed the restaurant from the site. The Dedham location of the chain first opened in 2022, joining another outlet in the Harvard Square section of Cambridge (which Google mentions as "temporarily closed").

The address for the now-closed Menya Jiro in Dedham was 756 Legacy Place, Dedham, MA, 02026.

Ganko Ittetsu Ramen Opens in Braintree

Last summer, it was reported that an award-winning ramen spot west of Boston was planning to open a new location south of the city, and now we have learned that it is in the process of getting up and running.

According to a Facebook post from the business, Ganko Ittetsu Ramen has soft-opened in Braintree, moving into a space Quincy Avenue and joining its existing location in the Coolidge Corner section of Brookline. The post mentions that the new outlet currently has limited hours and a limited menu, and it was open for dinner only as of last night; as soon as we hear about when they look to fully open, we will post an update here.

Another location of Ganko had been in Providence, but that one is no longer in operation.

Sapporo Ramen Closing Porter Square, Brookline Locations as It Gets Ready to Open at CanalSide Food Hall

A local group of ramen spots is going through changes, as it has closed one location and will soon close another--though it will soon open at a new food hall.

According to a poster within the Friends of Boston's Hidden Restaurants Facebook group page, Sapporo Ramen has closed its outlet in Brookline Village, while a check on its Instagram page indicates that its restaurant in Cambridge's Porter Square will also be shutting down on October 20. The post also mentions that "We can't wait to catch up with you all in our new spot at Canal Side Food Hall on October 25th! And don't forget, you can still grab your favorite ramen at our Central Square location until then!" (The Central Square outlet is located at H Mart.)

CanalSide Food Hall will reside within CambridgeSide in East Cambridge and will include approximately 15 options for dining.

Tama Plans to Open in the Former Oga's Space in Natick

It looks like a new Japanese restaurant may be coming to the western suburbs of Boston, replacing another Japanese spot that recently closed.

According to an article from the Natick Report, Tama is planning to open in Natick, moving into the former Oga's Japanese Cuisine space on Route 9. The article mentions that the full name for the place will apparently be Tama Sushi & Ramen, and in addition to sushi and ramen it will also focus on hibachi, and it would have seating for 110 people. If all goes well, Tama could open next spring or summer.

Oga's had been in business for 23 years, offering such options as sushi, teppanyaki, udon and soba dishes, and bento boxes, and more.

Kyuramen Opens in Brookline

In the fall of 2022, it was reported that a growing chain of ramen restaurants with roots in New York City would be expanding to the Greater Boston area, and now we have learned that its first location in the region has debuted.

According to a press release, Kyuramen is now open in Brookline, moving into a space on Beacon Street just west of the Boston line that is part of a development that will include several new dining options including the recently-opened Kyo Matcha. The new location of Kyuramen includes 71 seats indoors, a 10-seat noodle bar, a patio with seating for 26, and multiple private dining rooms, and its menu includes a variety of ramen options along with gyoza, chilled tofu, lobster and chashu salad balls, popcorn chicken, and more.

Kyuramen, which first started out in 2014, is also looking to open an outlet in Winchester, though it isn't known when that one might debut.

Kyuramen, Which Is Opening in Brookline, Is Also Looking to Open in Winchester

A growing chain of ramen restaurants based in New York City is opening not one, but two locations in the Greater Boston area, including one on its way to a space in the northern suburbs.

According to a poster within the Friends of Boston's Hidden Restaurants Facebook group page, Kyuramen is planning to open in Winchester, which will apparently be its second location in the Greater Boston as an upcoming outlet in Brookline will open a bit later this spring. The chain, which started out in 2014, is headquartered in the Flushing neighborhood of Queens and is known for its variety of ramen options.

Ganko Ittetsu Ramen Plans to Open in Braintree

An award-winning ramen spot in Brookline is going to be opening a new location in the southern suburbs of Boston.

According to multiple posters on social media, Ganko Ittetsu Ramen is opening in Braintree, moving into a space within a strip mall on Quincy Avenue that had been home to South Shore Desi Market. A Patriot Ledger article from March mentioned Ganko's plans while saying it could open in July, though it has not opened as of yet, and its original location inside the arcade building on Harvard Street in Coolidge Corner has been closed since earlier this month for repairs.

The Brookline location of Ganko has received much praise since opening in 2015, including being awarded best ramen in 2021 by Boston Magazine; another location had once been in Providence as well, but that one is no longer in business.

Tama Japanese Ramen & Bar Is Opening in the Former Blue Hills Grille Space in Canton

A brand new Japanese restaurant is planning to open in the southern suburbs of Boston, moving into a space across the street from a popular hiking spot.

According to a tweet from @JeremyKrantz,  Tama Japanese Ramen & Bar is going to be opening in Canton, taking over the former Blue Hills Grille space on Route 138. The upcoming dining spot, which will sit across from the Blue Hills reservation, will offer such options as ramen, dim sum, teriyaki, noodle and rice dishes, and kushiyaki (skewered and grilled foods).

Blue Hills Grille closed in June of 2020 after being in business for approximately six years.

Kiin Thai Plans to Open in the Former Similans Space in East Cambridge

A brand new Asian restaurant is on its way to Cambridge, replacing a Thai spot that closed earlier this year--and the name of the new place is the same as a dining spot that's apparently coming to the northern suburbs of Boston.

According to a poster within the Friends of Boston's Hidden Restaurants Facebook page, Kiin Thai is going to be opening in the former Similans space in East Cambridge, with a sign for the place including "Thai Sushi Ramen" out front at the First Street space. As reported here in February, a restaurant named Kiin may also be in the works for Stoneham, with that place possibly opening on Main Street where Thai Village had been. It is not known if the two are connected--and if the Stoneham restaurant is indeed still planning to open--so stay tuned for updates.

The Similans shut down in February after being in operation for 18 years.

WakuWaku Ramen & Sake Is Opening in the Former Pollo Club Space in Waltham

A couple of months ago, it was reported that a restaurant in Boston's Chinatown neighborhood was expanding to Harvard Square in Cambridge, and now we have learned that a new outlet is opening in the western suburbs as well.

According to a tweet from @y2000k, WakuWaku Ramen & Sake is going to be opening in Waltham, moving into the former Pollo Club space on Moody Street. An earlier article from WCAC-TV mentioned that the eatery would be opening in the 900-square-foot space while an article here stated that the Harvard Square location opened last month on Brattle Street. (The original location opened on Tyler Street in Chinatown in the spring of 2021.)
