An Italian restaurant in Wayland that is part of a group of restaurants with locations around the Boston area is closing its doors, possibly as early as this weekend.
A phone call placed to one of the dining spots run by Burlington-based American Food Systems has confirmed that Luigi's Italian Grille, which is located on Route 20 between Wayland Center and the Weston border, is going to be shutting down, though the person we talked to didn't know the exact closing date. A poster on the Chowhound site mentioned that Luigi's may be closing after Mother's Day (this coming Sunday), but we are still trying to confirm this. [May 14 update: We just confirmed that Luigi's in Wayland is now closed.]
Based on the Chowhound post (as well as a post on Yelp), it appears that American Food Systems may be opening another restaurant in the space where Luigi's currently resides. A Yelp poster mentioned that Grassfields (another American Food Systems restaurant) may be moving into the spot, but this has not been confirmed, either.
Luigi's Italian Grille has featured classic Southern Italian and Italian-American fare in a family-friendly environment over the years. Their menu has included a variety of pasta dishes as well as veal, chicken, beef, and seafood entrees. The company behind Luigi's Italian Grille also runs Cafe Luigi in Bedford as well as Grassfields in Waltham, Danvers, and Andover, and Jimmy's Steer House in Arlington and Saugus.
