Joan and Ed's Deli in Natick to Close

A MetroWest delicatessen that has been in business for more than 30 years is soon going to be closing its doors for good.

According to The MetroWest Daily News and Wicked Local, Joan and Ed's Deli in Natick is going to shut down after Father's Day (June 20), as the owners have decided to retire. The deli, which has been located in Sherwood Plaza since the mid 1990s (and before that, Shoppers World across the street since the 1970s), was known in part for their Jewish "comfort food," including such dishes as noodle kugel, knishes, potato pancakes, blintzes, and whitefish.

The article indicates that part of the decision to close may have come from the shaky economy as well as related issues.

On a side note, our other site (Boston's Hidden Restaurants) considered Joan and Ed's to be a "hidden gem" in the western suburbs of Boston, reviewing and re-reviewing it several times over the past five years. The review of Joan and Ed's can be found here:

The address for this soon-to-close delicatessen in Natick is: Joan and Ed's Deli, Sherwood Plaza (Route 9 East), Natick, MA, 01760.
