News Elsewhere: ESPN Zone to Close Most of Its Locations

It looks like a small chain of family-friendly American restaurants connected to a sports-based cable television network is going to be shutting down most of its locations.

According to the LA Times, ESPN Zone will be closing its locations, though it looks like restaurants within Disney properties will remain open. (Walt Disney Company and ABC own 80 percent of ESPN.) The closing of most of the ESPN Zone restaurants may be tied to the shaky economy, which has taken its toll on casual family-friendly restaurant chains, though the article states that the exact reason for their closings is not clear.

ESPN Zone, which first opened in 1998, has locations in New York, Baltimore, Washington, DC, Chicago, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, and Anaheim. The LA Times mentions that locations in Atlanta and Denver closed last year. [June 10 update: According to The Baltimore Sun, the locations in New York, Baltimore, Washington, DC, Chicago, and Las Vegas will be closing. The restaurants in Los Angeles and Anaheim will remain open.]
