A former Boston Bruins player and two partners are attempting to open a restaurant and pub in Framingham, though it looks like there may be a push to keep it from opening.
According to the MetroWest Daily News, Lyndon Byers is part of a three-man group looking to open Angry Ham's Garage on Beacon Street (at the intersection of Routes 9 and 126) where the Chinese restaurant Green Tea II used to be. The article mentions that Byers and his partners had tried to open Angry Ham's once before, but the plans for the 186-seat dining spot and watering hole were pulled earlier this summer because of the town's concerns about Byers' drunk-driving arrests, as well as another partner's drunk driving arrest. Some people living near the proposed site of the place are also concerned about potential problems that might result from the spot, including drinking-related issues.
New plans for Angry Ham's Garage will apparently go back to the Board of Selectmen on September 21. [SEPTEMBER 29 UPDATE: According to The MetroWest Daily News, one of the persons involved with Angry Ham's Garage bought out his two business parters, including Lyndon Byers. As a result, Framingham selectmen have given the green light for the restaurant and bar to open by unanimously approving its bid as well as transferring a liquor license to the place. Once it opens, Angry Ham's Garage will likely be open from 11:00 AM to 1:00 AM Saturday through Thursday, and 11:00 AM to 2:00 AM on Fridays.]
November 8 update: According to the Phantom Gourmet Facebook page, Angry Ham's Garage is now open for business.]
Lyndon Byers played for the Boston Bruins in the 1980s and early 1990s, earning a reputation as an enforcer. Since retiring, he has become an on-air personality on WAAF, a rock station in Worcester and Boston.
The address for this new restaurant and pub in Framingham is: Angry Ham's Garage, 2 Beacon Street, Framingham, MA, 01701.
