Food Network Magazine Picks Scampo as Having the Best Pizza in Massachusetts

The magazine of a popular television channel has come out with their picks for pizza in all 50 states, and their pick for Massachusetts is an interesting one.

Bypassing such popular favorites as Santarpio's in East Boston and Pizzeria Regina in the North End, the Food Network Magazine has chosen the lobster pizza at Scampo, an upscale Mediterranean and Italian restaurant within the Liberty Hotel on Charles Street. The magazine mentions that the Lydia Shire restaurant was picked in part because the pizza is "the epitome of high-low eating: a pizza topped with lobster, in a high-end restaurant that's housed in a former jail." The lobster pizza at Scampo is made with chunks of lobster tail and a coating of lobster cream, and costs $25.

Other pizzas from New England restaurants that were picked by the Food Network Magazine include the white clam pizza from Frank Pepe Pizzeria Napoletana in New Haven, CT; the mashed potato pizza from Otto Pizza in Portland, ME; the spicy guacamole pizza From MT's Local Kitchen & Wine Bar in Nashua, NH; the summer pizza from Al Forno in Providence, RI; and the Green Mountain Special pizza from Parker Pie Co. in West Glover, VT. And in what may be another surprising pick, the magazine picked the margherita pizza from the relatively little-known Keste Pizza & Vino in the West Village of Manhattan as the best pizza in New York.
