Red Lulu Cocina and Tequila Bar Is Opening in Salem

A new Mexican restaurant and tequila bar is coming to the North Shore, and the people behind it are the same folks who run a Mexican spot in Boston's Back Bay.

Based on information from a Craigslist post and Lolita Cocina and Tequila Bar's Facebook page, Red Lulu Cocina and Tequila Bar is going to be opening in downtown Salem, with a planned opening date being sometime in October. The City of Salem website indicates that the eatery will be opening on Lafayette Street where Strega used to be (thanks to the poster below for bringing this to our attention). Red Lulu will be a sister restaurant of Lolita Cocina and Tequila Bar, a casual upscale Mexican restaurant that opened on Dartmouth Street in Boston last December. (Original locations of Lolita Cocina and Tequila Bar and Red Lulu Cocina and Tequila Bar are in Greenwich, CT, and Norwalk, CT, respectively.)

Based on the food and drinks menu at Red Lulu in Norwalk, the Salem location might be featuring dishes such as ahi tuna tostados, spicy grouper flautas, crab and roasted poblano nachos, rib-eye tacos, and lobster enchiladas) as well as countless tequila options.

[October 27 update: According to North Shore Dish, Red Lulu Cocina and Tequila Bar plans to open tomorrow (Friday, October 28).]

[October 31 update: According to their Facebook page, Red Lulu is now open.]

The address for this new restaurant in Salem is: Red Lulu Cocina and Tequila Bar, 94 Lafayette Street, Salem, MA, 01970. (The website for Red Lulu in Norwalk can be found at http://redlulumexican.com/)
