A new branch of the Walgreens pharmacy is on its way to Boston's Downtown Crossing, but this won't be just any Walgreens, as this one will have options for the type of food and drink that you would probably not expect to find in a drug store.
According to The Boston Globe, the Illinois-based drugstore chain is looking to open a massive 24,000-square-foot store at the corner of School Street and Washington Street (in the former Borders books space) that will include sushi stations with chefs and juice bars that offer smoothies, along with sections where customers can purchase fruits, vegetables, and freshly-made sandwiches and salads. The article states that the Downtown Crossing store will be modeled after new shops in New York City and Chicago, and it will, according to the Globe, "highlight the architectural details of the historic Downtown Crossing space." Hours have not yet been set for the new Walgreens, which plans to open this fall, but the Chicago store is open from 6:30 AM to midnight during the week, according to the article.
[May 1 update: The Boston Hospitality and Tourism Industry Blog is reporting (via The Boston Herald) that the new Walgreens in Downtown Crossing opens today.]
The address for this new Walgreens in Downtown Crossing is 24 School Street, Boston, MA, 02108.
