A Mediterranean restaurant in Newton Centre that has been in business for 35 years is going to become an Irish pub, though some aspects of the old dining spot will still exist.
The Newton Patch reports that Sabra on Union Street closed its doors this week, with the space undergoing renovations for at least a couple of months, eventually reopening (under the same ownership) as Terry O'Reilly's Pub. The article mentions that the new spot will offer pub grub such as wings, burgers, and chicken pot pie, along with ten lines of draft beer, but part of the old Sabra menu will still be here. Two full-service bars will be within the space with live music offered, and hardwood floors and fireplaces will be included. The Patch also states that the front windows of Terry O'Reilly's Pub will be able to fully open during the warmer months.
[September 4 update: An article from yesterday's Newton Patch indicates that Terry O'Reilly's Pub is now officially open. (Thanks to a poster on the Chowhound site for bringing this to our attention.)]
Sabra's line of food will still be sold at retail locations, according to the Patch.
One last note: The Terry O'Reilly of Boston Bruins fame is not involved with this upcoming restaurant; the name stems from that of a new partner of the eating and drinking establishment who is teaming up with the owner of Sabra.
The address for the now-closed Sabra (and upcoming Terry O'Reilly's Pub) is 45 Union Street, Newton, MA, 02459.
