The chef/owner of one of a trio of highly-regarded neighborhood bistros in Jamaica Plain, Cambridge, and Provincetown is planning to open a new dining spot, with this one coming to a western suburb of Boston.
A Twitter message from Beantown Eats indicates that the people who run Ten Tables are looking to open a new eatery on Beacon Street in Newton Centre, in the space where the butcher shop John Dewar & Co. had been until closing earlier this year (their Wellesley shop remains open). More recent information shows that David Punch of the Cambridge location of Ten Tables is going to be running the new dining spot, which will be called Sycamore.
A letter posted by Beantown Drinks (which is part of Beantown Eats) shows that the plan for Sycamore is approximately 48 seats for the new restaurant, and that it would only be open for dinner. The letter also states that the Newton Centre spot would be similar to the Cambridge location of Ten Tables.
[August 24 update: The Zagat blog reports that Sycamore will be a "rustic, neighborhood haunt" that will have 32 seats in the dining room and another 18 at the bar, and that the restaurant will feature seasonal New American fare. Zagat also mentions that Lydia Reichert, who used to be the sous chef at Craigie on Main in Cambridge, is going to be the chef de cuisine at Sycamore.]
October 19 update: It looks like Sycamore may be getting closer to opening, as a Facebook post indicates that David Punch has officially left Ten Tables.]
[December 18 update: The Newton Patch states that Sycamore is now open. It also mentions that in addition to having chef/owner David Punch and chef Lydia Reichert (see above), it also has Scott Schoer (Abigail's in Cambridge) as bar manager and Zach Lieberman (Island Creek Oyster Bar in Boston's Kenmore Square) as general manager. Thanks to Eater Boston for bringing this to our attention.]
The address for this new dining spot in Newton Centre is: Sycamore, 755 Beacon Street, Newton, MA, 02459.
