Italian Cafe in Boston's Financial District Has Closed; The Wheelhouse Is Opening in Its Space

An Italian eatery in the Financial District of Boston has closed its doors, and it looks like a new restaurant is moving into its space.

An email sent to us mentions that Italian Cafe on Broad Street is shuttered, with the place apparently closing over the past few weeks (a check on the Yelp site seems to confirm this). It appears that a spot called The Wheelhouse is taking over the space, as a Licensing Board page on the City of Boston website mentions that it is looking to open at the same address, though no other information has been given on the place.

[June 6 update: One of our readers says that The Wheelhouse has opened, though the place does not appear to have a website and no phone number is available right now, so this has not yet been completely confirmed as of yet; expect more updates to come, including what kinds of food items are being served there.]

[June 9 update: A bit more information has come out about The Wheelhouse--the restaurant now has a website, with its menu showing such items as muffins, pastries, bagels, breakfast and lunch sandwiches, soups, salads, and burgers. The Wheelhouse is open for breakfast and lunch Monday through Friday, with hours being 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM. (Its website is at http://www.wheelhouseboston.com/)]

Italian Cafe was known mostly as a takeout spot for commuters and office workers in the Financial District, with breakfast items, pizza, and sandwiches offered. The place had been open for nearly 15 years.

The address for the now-closed Italian Cafe (and new Wheelhouse) is 65 Broad Street, Boston, MA, 02109.
