Merrill & Co. in Boston's South End Is Closing

A restaurant in the South End of Boston is apparently closing its doors--though what will happen to the space isn't exactly clear at this point in time.

A note sent from @TheDrewStarr indicates that Merrill & Co. is closing, with checks on the social media pages of the Appleton Street dining spot seeming to confirm this. An Instagram post from the restaurant says that it will be closing Friday, and it includes the message "Who wants to be a restaurant owner?....we are closing Merrill to find out," with a website address given under the message. The website appears to refer to a TV show where five prospective restaurant owners face off against each other to see who wins, with applications being open to the public until July 1.

[June 21 update: Merrill & Co. is now closed--and its website is now redirecting to]

[July 6 update: Eater Boston states that the application process for prospective restaurant owners has been pushed back to "summer/fall 2015" and that the Twitter page for "Who Wants to Be a Restaurant Owner mentions that the site is experiencing "technical difficulties." (The Merrill & Co. website continues to be redirected to this site.)]

The people behind jm Curley on Temple Place first opened Merrill & Co. in March of 2014, moving into the space where 28 Degrees had been. The dining spot focuses mainly on Southern-inspired comfort food.

The address for this restaurant in the South End is: Merrill & Co., 1 Appleton Street, Boston, MA, 02116.
