Domenic's Forno Plans to Open in East Cambridge

The person behind a decades-old Italian food shop in the western suburbs of Boston is looking to open a new location in one of the hottest sections of Cambridge.

Eater Boston is reporting (via the City of Cambridge website) that Ciro Maione of Domenic's Italian Bakery & Deli in Waltham is planning to open Domenic's Forno on the edge of Kendall Square in East Cambridge. The article mentions that the proposed Binney Street shop is in the "predevelopment stage," but based on the original store on Main Street in Waltham (and based on the name of the new place), EB mentions that it is possible such items as pasta, pizza, and breads could be offered there.

[November 10 update: A job post on the bostonchefs.com site indicates that the new location of Domenic's is now hiring and will be opening soon.]

Domenic's Italian Bakery & Deli first opened in 1979, offering an array of sandwiches as well as pasta items, pizza, and more. The food shop has consistently gotten high marks over the years, including the Phantom Gourmet awarding it "the greatest panini" and also having a Facebook post saying that it is "One of the best sandwich shops ever."

The address for this upcoming spot in East Cambridge is: Domenic's Forno, 75-115 Binney Street, Cambridge, MA, 02142. The website for the original Domenic's can be found at http://www.getdoms.com/
