Mandarin Oriental Boston Hotel (Home of Bar Boulud) to Be Sold for $140 Million

Last spring, we reported that a high-end Back Bay hotel and condo building that is home to an upscale French restaurant was heading to the auction block. Now we have learned that it will be sold for what will end up being the highest per-room price ever in the city of Boston.

According to an article in the Boston Business Journal, the Hong Kong-based Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group International Ltd. is planning to purchase the Mandarin Oriental Boston for $140 million, or $945,945 per room, with the sale likely becoming official in the first quarter of this year. The post says that the hotel group has a management contract that allows it to purchase the hotel from CWB Hotel LP for a sum equivalent to the highest bid offered during the auction. The deal will presumably include Bar Boulud, a restaurant that Chef Daniel Boulud opened within the hotel in September of 2014. (The original Bar Boulud opened in New York in 2008.)

The Mandarin Oriental Boston and Bar Boulud can be found at 776 Boylston Street by the Prudential Center.
