Villa Mexico Opens in New Home in Downtown Boston

A beloved Mexican restaurant that closed nearly three years ago in Boston's Beacon Hill has reopened in a brand new home in the city's Financial District.

According to the people behind the dining spot (Julie and Bessie King), Villa Mexico opens today on Water Street, featuring such items as tacos, burritos, quesadillas, tamales, flautas, tostadas, and more, and unlike its previous location which had very limited seating by the door, the new spot will have six seats at the windows and six more at the counter, with the possibility of more seating being set up as necessary, though it is basically a takeout/delivery/catering place. Julie tells us that weekday hours will be from 7:00 AM to close, with the closing time depending on traffic--most likely anywhere between 5:00 PM and 8:00 PM. (On Saturdays, the restaurant will be open from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM.)

Villa Mexico had been located within a gas station on Cambridge Street until January of 2013 when it was forced to leave its home to make way for new development. After the eatery closed (and while the new spot has been getting ready to open), Julie has been catering, selling her house-made salsa, and participating in various events, including at Williams-Sonoma.

The address for the new location of Villa Mexico is 121 Water Street, Boston, MA, 02109. Its website can be found at http://www.villamexicocafe.us/home
