Trattoria il Panino to Expand into Former Caffe Pompei Space in Boston's North End Next Week

A restaurant that has been in Boston's North End for nearly 30 years is getting ready to expand into the space where another dining spot had been for more than a half century.

According to a Facebook post from Frank DePasquale of DePasquale Ventures, Trattoria il Panino on Parmenter Street will be expanding into the former Caffe Pompei space--which is around the corner on Hanover Street--sometime next week, with the post saying "When I bought the old Pompei, I [knew] it would be a great addition to Trattoria Il Panino (Boston's first original Trattoria) Reinventing & Celebrating 30 yr & opening of our new bar next week." DePasquale purchased the Pompei space late last spring at a time when DePasquale Ventures was making some changes to its restaurants, including moving Mare Oyster Bar from Richmond Street to the former Ida's space on Mechanic Street and opening a new tapas spot called Sfizi in the old Mare space (which took place in October).

DePasquale Ventures is also behind such places as Bricco, Gelateria, and Quattro, and DePasquale helped out in the opening of a couple of Il Panino Express locations in Jamaica Plain, which are under different ownership.

The address for the former Caffe Pompei space is 280 Hanover Street, while the address for Trattoria il Panino is 11 Parmenter Street.

[March 31 update: According to a press release, the "reinvented" Trattoria il Panino debuts April 8, with one entrance at the former Pomei space on Hanover Street and another entrance at the original Trattoria il Panino space on Parmenter Street. The release says that the restaurant will have seating for 250, with breakfast, lunch, and dinner being served in the Hanover Street space and lunch and dinner in the Parmenter Street space.]
