MIDA Opening in Former Cluckit! Space in Boston's South End

Last fall we reported that a South End dining spot with a well-known chef/restaurateur behind it had closed after a brief run. Now we have learned that a new restaurant is planning to open in the space, and another big name may be involved.

According to a licensing board page within the City of Boston website, a new spot called MIDA is looking to open in Brian Poe's former Cluckit! space on Tremont Street, with Douglass Williams being the manager listed, Based on information posted within the Culinary Breakdown site, this appears to be the same Douglass Williams who has worked at such spots as Radius and Coppa, and he has also worked at Corton in the Tribeca section of Manhattan and Akrame in Paris, both of which are Michelin two-star restaurants.

Brian Poe and the Wilcox Hospitality Group first opened Cluckit! last June, taking over Estelle's, which Poe was also behind. The restaurant closed its doors for good in late September and at the time it looked like he was going to reconcept the space and open a new dining spot this spring, but a message from Poe this morning indicates that he is now "handing that location off."

The address for the Cluckit!/MIDA space in the South End is 782 Tremont Street, Boston, MA, 02118.

[August 23 update: According to a Zagat feature on fall restaurant openings, it looks like MIDA will be an "Italian-inspired neighborhood restaurant" that is indeed being opened by Douglass Williams of Radius, Coppa, Corton, and Akrame. No opening date has been given for the place as of yet, but it could be up and running sometime in the early fall.]

[November 25 update: The Tables section of The Boston Globe indicates that MIDA plans to open November 29.]

[November 30 update: According to a Facebook post from the place, MIDA is now open.]
