Last summer, we reported that a brand new Mexican restaurant appeared to be in the works on Newbury Street in the Back Bay, and the person behind it was also behind several local dining spots. Now that we have learned that he will be opening another restaurant at a different location on the same street.
According to an article from Eater Boston, Allan Rodriguez of El Centro and La Catrina is planning to open La Neta at 221 Newbury Street, which is about a block east of where Rodriguez had been looking to open another spot called Taqueria Urban Kitchen. The post says that La Neta will be a fast-casual eatery that offers tacos, tortas, enchiladas, burritos, and more, with the plan being to open sometime later this spring or early in the summer.
Locations of El Centro can be found in the South End, Belmont, Brookline [ed note--now closed], and Dedham, while La Catrina can be found in Brighton; it appears that plans for Taqueria Urban Kitchen have fallen through because the address is so close to the upcoming La Neta, but if any new information comes, we will post an update here.
