Southern Kin Cookhouse to Open in the Former Merrill & Co./28 Degrees Space in Boston's South End

by Marc Hurwitz

Last year, we reported that a Southern-style restaurant in Somerville was going to be joined by a second location, and now we have learned where it will be.

According to an article in Boston Magazine, Southern Kin Cookhouse will be opening in the South End of Boston, taking over the space on Appleton Street where Merrill & Co. had been, and before that, 28 Degrees. The company behind Southern Kin is Boston Nightlife Ventures (BNV), which runs the original location of the restaurant at Assembly Row and which also operates Wink & Nod, a space in the South End next to the upcoming Southern Kin which features a line of rotating dining spots. (BNV also ran The Tap Trailhouse near Faneuil Hall, Griddler's Burgers & Dogs by Boston Common and in Beacon Hill, and Certified Meatball Company in South Boston, all of which have closed, though a new restaurant is apparently coming to the Certified Meatball space.)

Southern Kin first opened at Assembly Row in June of 2016.

The address for the upcoming location of Southern Kin Cookhouse in the South End is 1 Appleton Street, Boston, MA, 02116. The website for the original Southern Kin in Somerville can be found at http://southernkincookhouse.com/
